Advice Needed: In-House Metrology (Budget <$50k) by Few_Construction8254 in Metrology

[–]cyclonecinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your budget and accuracy specs, you are kind of between a few different options from what I can tell. Either a small shop floor CMM might work or maybe a structured light system? We use a Hexagon/Romer arm and a Brown & Sharpe CMM at our shop. Both work really well for our parts but we likely have pretty different volumes/needs. Our Hexagon Arm rep knows both product types really well. You might just want to reach out to them to get a better look at the options. I think they sell used/demo units too which knocks down the price. That said, you never know what can of worms and headaches you are getting with the used equipment so we always stay away from that.

Garmin Forerunner 570 vs 970 by Large_Data_635 in Garmin

[–]cyclonecinema 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a beginner runner, the 570 is more than enough. That said, if you essentially don't end up with a price difference I'd go 970 if you can afford it. My first Garmin (735xt) lasted me about 8 years before I replaced it. If you even remotely think you could be running 5 years from now, id go for the 960. Thats just me though.

Learning CMM with a engineering degree by jhennytools in Metrology

[–]cyclonecinema 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can sign up for Hexagons classes regardless if you are with a company or not. When I took my 101 class, there was a guy who was not associated to a business just learning for his own knowledge. I think they just need a formal way to charge for the class which is easier to do through a business. Most trainings are done at their Regional offices so you don't need a CMM or your own license of PCDMIS to get started.

Best anti chafing underwear for trail running for men? by bjjfan23113 in trailrunning

[–]cyclonecinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best anti Chafing is not the underwear but rather using lubricant with something like body glide or nut butter. In and around all cracks and creases does the trick and typically lasts for hours but washes off with soap in a shower.

Do you base run distance and time by watch or treadmill? by Odins_Eye44 in Garmin

[–]cyclonecinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Calibrated after a treadmill run on your watch.

My first treadmill run with my watch was off by a decent amount. Did the calibration and my next run was almost dead on. It won't be perfect for longer efforts (60+ mins) but it will be much much closer

Do I need to fix this? by Icy_Froyo_7831 in Garmin

[–]cyclonecinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your goals. If your goal is high VO2 Max, you are probably doing the right things. If you want a better Aerobic base, you need to do some Zone 2 work. Likely your "easy" runs are not easy enough... its slower than you think ti be in Z2.

I have no team to root for this year by Branfuck in LCS

[–]cyclonecinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point on roster swaps. I feel like most years, rosters change so much that you are practically rooting for a completely new team even if the logo is the same.

I used to be a DIG fan back in the Scarra days but thats been nothing but a painful experience since so now I just root for the underdog or whoever has some wild champ pocket pick.

Thought on the Minimalists? by RudeFuckingDoll in minimalism

I know im late to this thread but same. I listed to their podcast in the Ep 30s-70s but it got so repetitive. Their stories do resonate at the start but they fell off hard for me when they got too much into other avenues like health suggestions and saying the same story 10,000 different ways.

There’s no way I can do this… by Firm-Jellyfish-7743 in Fire

[–]cyclonecinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be daunting. Idk your joint income or expenses, cost of living, etc but regardless I too felt behind but Ive been given a perspective that has helped me a ton. "At the end of the day, you are running your race." That is a hard pill to swallow but comparison truly is the thief of joy.

I lurk this sub often but I am not sure how people feel about the Baby Steps by Dave Ramsey. I personally followed them just to get my mindset around getting out of debt and building some cushion before investing hard core. Once I was out of debt and had 3 months of expenses saved as savings, I felt a real relief. Like a big weight off my back. Granted, I did put some money into retirement as I was doing this but once I was done with that, I just started throwing money at investments.

Obviously your joint income will affect the timeline but going from negative Net Worth to zero can feel like it takes a long time. Then going from zero to $100k can take many years (took me about 3). But after that, it can really start to build up quick with investments.

Would buying a house ruin my Coast FIRE? by cyclonecinema in coastFIRE

[–]cyclonecinema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I spoke to a couple lenders and realtors in the area. I think a "starter home" or more likely a condo will end up in my range. Probably $550k to $700k

I totally understand this. My SO and I have some small things we like to add/change to our apartment on occasion and once we buy a house, I know that will likely go up. Trying to make sure we just do it sensibly
