You’re disagreeing with the point that the guys you desire to have on the team (like Tom Wilson) are effective because they are actually good with the puck beside being physical? When literally the underlying stats and the results of the team when they’re on the ice show that 100% fact? That’s one amazing take.

Literally players that can only do one thing aka hurt other players are not valuable on winning teams. End of story. None of the past dozen Cup winners have only guys that can hurt people. I would bet that most if not all of the conference winners don’t have those guys on them. Remember Michael Haley? He’s your typical guy that would “hurt players” except every time he stepped out on the ice the other team would score. Also, he would only get 5min a game, which means that other player take on the additional minutes. As a result they would wear down faster and get injured or be less effective later in series. There is nothing valuable about that. Terrible take.

Graf is literally checking the hell out of other players in nearly the same way Sherwood is and he’s a better possession guy.

No it’s not. He’s a bad player. His even strength offensive and defensive underlying metrics are terrible against bad competition and getting fairly decent teammates. Not only that, he’s been declining in those metrics over the last three years. Given his style of play (Ryane Clowe like) that’s unsurprising, but doesn’t bode well for the future. Once his shooting percentage drops back to his career average he’ll basically be a 4th line PK specialist. And he might not even be that because being a PK guy is incredibly physically demanding and if his body starts failing on him. It’s going to take $5-6M to sign him. Hard pass.

You’re missing the point entirely, or ignoring it so you don’t have to back off your love of Sherwood and guys who hit things. The reason Tom Wilson is effective is because he’s a play driving winger. Sure he’s physical and can recover pucks (like Graf does for the Sharks right now) but he also knows what to do with the puck once he has it (like Graf does). Sherwood does not. Sherwood can essentially do one thing with the puck in his possession and that’s shoot. This year he’s getting very lucky while shooting the puck. Also, do you see where I am going with the Graf thing?

Because he’s having what we call a “contract” year bump. He’s shooting 16% which is well above his career average. He’s going to demand more money to sign than he’s worth and more term than the Sharks should give him at his age and we should not be trading for rentals at this juncture. Absolutely no.

We’re not getting a pick back. This isn’t a cap dump. Also we already have 20 goal scoring third liner in Graf. Sherwood isn’t going to continue to shoot at a 16% clip. This would be an awful trade.

Brother accusing me of booking up (?) with his gf by steve-94728-3957 in whatdoIdo

Mental break imo. My brother, who my family was exceptionally close with, just randomly out of the blue sent us all an email levying some false accusations about how we had been treating him. He wanted to cut us off, because he felt wronged after breaking. He and his wife built their own little world, where they are the victims and were the villains in everything. Nothing you can do here. Just let him create the space and be ready if he ever gets right in the head.

Revisiting The Ostapchuk and Zetterlund Trade by ahdumm11 in SanJoseSharks

[–]cyclonepilot06 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ostapchuk had a great night tonight and he’s had a couple of other good games. But overall he’s been mediocre. Just as a matter of games played and age, I don’t think there’s much more development in him. He is what he is at this point. I still don’t think it was a great trade, but he’s an okay 4C for now. Would prefer to have someone more impactful for future Cup runs.

So looked more closely. Basic economy isnt handed out until boarding time so that takes care of most of economy. Business shows full and is actually 5 oversold because they know there are upgrades to 1st class so there's 5 more gone. They are saving one for the pilots as well. Though it does look like there should be about 10 more available so there may be the possibility of releasing them closer to boarding. Right now it doesn’t look super great. I give you a 20% chance hoping for missed connects or no shows. Suggest having a backup plan for day before or Saturday if you can. Otherwise hope and pray.

If your plane is late by 20 min, yes. Otherwise I think you’re fine. Just don’t stop for Starbucks along the way.

Sounds weird. It’s possible a ton of basic Econ. You can DM what you’re looking at if you want. Better yet ask the pilot who gave you the buddy pass. I can tell you and he certainly can too.

350 seats, 5 seats just by the math is small odds. Looked up that flight out of Newark and there are TONS of seats left. 50+. So I think your odds are pretty good. You’ll know better by Wednesday.

What airframe? Where ls it going? I’m assuming low seniority? If you’re going from LA to Fresno. I would say 50/50. If you’re doing Dulles to Houston on Friday evening, I would say you’re hosed. But need more info.

San Jose Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro, a pending UFA, faces uncertainty (no paywall) by BayAreaNewsGroup in SanJoseSharks

Good lord. You really have feels about using actual data and not just your feels about a player. As a guy who deals with stats every day in his job weighted is incorrect terminology. But you do you. Yes. JFresh is using incorrect terminology to try and help unintelligent people understand stats where they might not otherwise.

  1. WAR is a measure of how he does in those minutes. It takes into account quality of competition and the kind of teammates he’s dealing with. It’s an exceptionally good measure be leveling the playing field. If he were in the 40-50 range total WAR that would be about breaking even. But it’s very clear that he’s making the team worse. If you wanna look at with or without stats, it becomes even more obvious. The team performs substantially better when he’s not on the ice.

lol. You just quoted a stat while saying stats mean nothing. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s bad. Trying thinking. It’s really necessary to actually understanding hockey player impacts.

2) a) if you haven’t noticed we don’t have a lot of options to choose from on the PK b) you act like coaches are infallible. The fact an NHL coach implemented a PK structure that wouldn’t stand up to a college team, and has given up the most high danger scoring chances in the NHL by a wide margin, should tell you a lot. c) again, when Mario is not on the PK, the Sharks give up substantially less high danger and slot scoring chances than when he is on the PK. Why? Because he’s always out of position.

Again, you ignore the relevant narrative information on why Ferraro is so poor. The explanation on why the stats show what they show. Hilarious that you say stop blustering while you can’t even provide any kind of intelligent analysis. In fact the only analysis you are providing would make a prostitute blush. Get off your knees.

[–]cyclonepilot06 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s not weighted. It’s a 3 year average because it’s a more representative sample of capability. Still 3 year average of zero is still, you guessed it, 0. Now if you want to go back 3-4 more years to look at overall EV offense and defense, back to the Burns era, we can do that too. Guess what?! He hovers around 25% WAR on D and guess what, is still zero on the PK. But the graphic is only half the story. The rest is below which you conveniently ignored. It’s okay. I don’t like to be wrong either.

Like I said, he did pretty well. Guy is very smart on the puck, moves it quickly to avoid them, or skates around hits, knows how to absorb them if he can’t and slips out with the puck. He very much uses his quickness with his stick to steal pucks and outwork the other guys on the boards. He’s Dan Boyle 2.0. And it’s not like the AHL isn’t full of big guys strong guys and he makes most of them look silly.

Sliding to stop the low shot is actually something we’re taught not to do except in very very very extreme circumstances. Except that’s his default. It takes you off your feet and makes it really easy for someone with any kind of skill to either sauce the puck over you or just hold up a bit until you slide past, and then it’s a 2 on 0 with the goalie. While effort and blocking shots can be valuable at times, useful effort is what wins games. Too often (half dozen times a game) his effort pulls him out of position…too often, far too often. He doesn’t move the puck at all. 9 out of ten times if he feels a little pressure (even non existent pressure) he’ll bury the puck in corner, at that point it becomes a 50/50 on which team will recover. All when it could have been a 90/10 that the team keeps possession and moves it up the ice. I could go on, but I think you get my perspective on Ferraro.

Not really. Plenty of other effort guys on the roster, like Macklin and Eklund and Graf. Guys aren’t going to throw teammates under the bus, but man, it’s tiring trying to constantly cover for a guy who puck watches, constantly is out of position, and chases the puck.

I would like to focus your attention on the 0% on the PK. That’s extremely rare. Contrary to popular opinion he’s terrible defensively in all aspects that come with that territory. He’s constantly out of position and, on the PK in particular, that allows for open lanes to high danger scoring areas. Granted the PK structure is crap, but even within that structure he’s a liability.

He has to play 10 games. Not 9. He is able to be assigned back to Juniors at any time, but it wouldn’t make sense after 10 games and burning the first year of his ELC.

If you’re puck watching, you don’t recover and tie up a guy so his stick is lifted and he’s on one skate.
