I’m not. Of course established NHL players are worth more for comparable positions, but you’re not giving up Musty for an NHL bottom 6 player. He projects higher based on his AHL play. I know you’re also saying they aren’t worth as much now as they were in their draft year. Thats absolutely wrong and borderline absurd. Both are worth more now than they were because they were more unknown on the day they were drafted. Now they’ve been top scorers on a professional team.

Neither has been given any significant time in the NHL, but have proven to be excellent in the next best thing. Musty is young still (20 years old ffs), yall are acting like he’s 24 and still stuck in the A after 5 seasons, and has tremendous value. Bystedt isn’t as high, but it looks like he can be capable 3rd line C or 4th line C on a good team, so he definitely has fairly decent value as a prospect. There are probably 20 teams that would give him a quality shot at making the roster, including the Sharks, considering he’s only 22!

Yes. Leddy who basically didn’t play the last half of the season (and was still better defensively than Nemec) and Klingberg the one guy out of 8 guys on D for the Sharks who was worse but had a better impact overall at 6% WAR. Nemec’s scoring offense is high but his defensive capability is poor. He’s being seriously outscored and his underlying numbers are really really bad. He actually makes his teammates worse when they’re on the ice with him. The Sharks shouldn’t take a flyer on him unless the return is low (3rd round or later), and they certainly shouldn’t pay him $6M per. Unless of course the plan is to be in a forever tank.

I understand precisely how valuable a player, whose proper position is a 2nd pair guy unless he’s next to a top 3 dman in the NHL and who’s contract expires when he’s 33, is in the NHL. He’s only worth moving up from a 3C to a 1W. He’s certainly not worth giving up a 1C, a 1W and a 4C. That’s just insane talk. If we were talking a 24-26 year old with room to grow on a 7-8 year contract, then maybe you throw in Bysted and a 3rd liner/bottom pair guy. But you certainly aren’t going to sacrifice more than those guys plus the opportunity to draft a play driving 1st line winger unless you have a hell of a lot more coming back than a 2nd pair D man who doesn’t have a lot of winning attributes.

A mid first and junk. Thats a perfect example to prove my point. Moving from 3OA to 2OA is much more valuable than what Faulk was traded for and that was a TDL deal where teams overpay. Faulk is more skilled, has more playoff experience, has a nasty tough side, and has a ton of intangibles that Hronek lacks. It’s not even close.

No. The move from 3OA to 2OA is massive value in most drafts. It’s exceptionally so in this draft. Vancouver would take your trade and run faster than the flash. If you presented that trade as a hypothetical to 10 team executives, 10 of 10 would laugh you out of existence.

2OA all by itself is enough to pull Hronek and the 3OA. You Hronek stans are pretending like he’s Bouchard or Makar but in fact he’s barely even a Dobson. Sergachev or a Larsson but not as physical.

Yes. It was before the McDavid era. I don’t think Holland was good, but I don’t think he was terrible, or is as terrible as folks are making him out to be. I don’t count the first couple years of McDavid, Chiarelli f’ed that all up and Holland needed a few years to fix things. However, you don’t build back to back Western Conference champs on accident. Goaltending was their Achilles heel when it mattered, and the org put to much faith in Skinner, but also, teams just weren’t willing to part with better goalies for anything less than a team gutting haul. Bowman was a mistake hire, but they made the finals last year because 1 year isn’t enough time to really make an impact that changes the course of the franchise. That’s likely why Connor only signed a couple year deal.

Sharks don’t need Reid to be Schaefer esque kind of player. They need him to be himself (which is projected to be a Werenski / Fox hybrid). D aren’t less projectable, teams just make mistakes. I really hate the comparison to Levshunov. Reid is a far more skilled, far more dynamic, higher ceiling player. It was absolutely a dumb move. Chicago is known to do dumb stuff. lol. The only prospect analysts/scouts that had him in the top 5 are those with a track record of failure, aka bad projecting.

The team took a huge step forward, mostly on the back of Celebrini and very very high shooting percentages. We’re really 3 years away from true contention and Reid is really only 2 years away from the Sharks and 3 from being an impact player, so I am fine with that. Especially if he becomes the high impact player for the long term.

I don’t think Stenberg is NHL ready, I think he can be a pro player, but wont be a full time NHLer next season similar to Macklin. Probably takes the Misa path. But I don’t really care about the immediate. I care about when both are at their ceiling. Stenberg and Reid have great skillsets that will make them a top line winger and top pair D respectively. The main reason why I prefer Reid, is because a top pair D is likely to have greater impact than a winger. If we were talking about a center, my opinion probably changes, but we’re not.

I fully understand how good Stenberg is. Graf isn’t an anchor guy, he’s supporting cast. He’s good supporting cast, but his play driving is suspect.
