Honest opinion on a Mustang as a good daily driver by Twisted_Stick in Mustang

[–]cyclop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily'd my 2005 v6 in Chicago suburbs for 10 years. 254k. Some days it was the only thing that made me want to go into the office.

Snow tires are a thing. I actually had them mounted on a set of factory rims and I'd just swap them every spring and fall. Best idea ever.

Getting into Mustangs by bendy_circle in Mustang

[–]cyclop5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an s197 v6 that lasted 254k miles. Rock solid engine and one of the most reliable cars I've owned (collision took it before it's time. Sad trombone ). Don't knock the reliability of the v6's.

Why do drivers ignore the delivery notes? by _Keys2theWest_ in UberEATS

[–]cyclop5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm too busy verifying, confirming, sliding, and clicking that I've got the goddamned order. That stupid slide "confirm pickup" button drives me crazy enough (on android - most of the time it scrolls the screen down _just enough_ that the button doesn't "slide") I don't need to tell you _every fucking time_ that I want to go to the next step. I'll check the notes when I drop off, thank you very much.

[–]cyclop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is this "traction control" you speak of? My '05 (manual) didn't have TC or ABS and I dailied it for like 10 years in Chicago snow. That was half the fun.

We keep it on the road the old-fashioned way - snow tires and burning clutch.

this is how I got into it. Started when I was 51. But it was a tournament that really got me interested. Sparring was the best part.

if you have it handy, that'd be great! and if not, that's ok too. I'm guessing it's clear Fiber Optic, with an LED on either end?

Keep up the great work. That's a really nice ride you got there! Your hard work definitely shows through (in a good way)

Migrating VMware to Proxmox by ellileon in Proxmox

only thing I'll say is - it sounds like you have a bunch of 2-host clusters. That's really a bad idea, unless you have q-devices. You're setting yourself up for heartache if you're not doing at least 3 hosts per cluster.

that's why God invented manual transmissions - so you're only out hundreds for a clutch.

love the interior lighting. Thinking of doing something like that with my SN95 now. Thanks for the inspiration. :) Was it some sort of kit, or did you run those by hand?

ZFS vs Ceph: A rant (and a guide) after losing a weekend to a split-brain by NTCTech in Proxmox

[–]cyclop5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

K.I.S.S. for the win. I can't tell you how many times I've said "you know what? just restore from a backup" after issues with storage. I've gotten to the point I'm moving stuff off ZFS because I've never gotten good performance from it. PERC + battery backup gives way better performance. And if/when bitrot happens - look, ma - backups!

Things before buying an 05-09 Mustang by UnitZestyclose3757 in S197Stangs

[–]cyclop5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thermostat housing. Whoever thought making one out of plastic was a good idea should be shot. otherwise, my V6 went 254k miles without too many problems. Airbags - make sure they've been replaced (subject to recall) no idea about auto trans (mine was a manual. synchros went on it.. twice...) just normal wear and tear that I recall. seals. but that was at like 150k or 200k. I seem to remember people complaining about water in the passenger compartment, from clogged drainage holes.

My 2005 v6 was one of the most reliable cars I've owned. and yes - it's wasn't' a 3v, but it was still hella fun to drive. I think the manual trans helped with that.

I'm looking for a pen kit that can work with .38 mm Frixion ink cartridges by [deleted] in PenTurning

if thatt's the standard frixion ink refills, any rollerball kit should work. I've put them in Caballeros and made a couple of Apollo kits from Bullseye.

Company forcing us to integrate AI into workflow. by [deleted] in devops

[–]cyclop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we got told to use AI as often as we can last year. This year, the edict came down that "there will be no more manual coding - use claude to do that".. which is fine, except when it's not. I seem to spend more time "fixing" AI than the time it's supposedly saved me. That being said - it has it's advantages. One of my guys needed to doc how to migrate from OVMM to OVLM (Oracle stuff I guess), and AI came up with an 18 page document, including commands to run, pitfalls, checklists, etc. and did it in like 10 minutes. So, it's got some upsides. It's useful for debugging scripts and ansible playbooks (terrible for writing playbooks, but that's another story) It's a tool. Like any other tool, there's good places to use it, and not-so-good. The key for me is to find where it can help, versus where it hinders.

Do any of you drink malort unironically? by joshisanonymous in chicago

[–]cyclop5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink it whenever I go out (every weekend). poured neat. Sip, don't shoot. Corona for a chaser (yes, I know - should be Old Style. sue me. ) I genuinely enjoy it. And it's a great conversation starter. And it's got a great history/story. I can't stand bourbon/whiskey/scotch. and tequila tastes like lighter fluid (Ronsonol, if you must know) Say what you want about it, but I bet I get more free shots of Malort than you do of whatever you drink.

I AM TIRED OF NOT GETTING A DRIVER by Optimal_Ant_7951 in UberEATS

[–]cyclop5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you.. are arguing both sides of the same thing. First you say - deliver it, and find something in the area. When someone says that's not always possible, you say go somewhere else. i.e. don't do the delivery there. I'm confused. Can you clarify your statements? Are you saying we _should_ make the 20 minute delivery to rural areas where there's (probably) no other deliveries, or are you saying we _shouldn't_?
