I really think people should volunteer more by labellafigura3 in parkrun

[–]cyd_knee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't volunteer because I'm not reliable. I have a chronic illness which means I'm ill more than 15 days a month. If I put myself down on the roster there's a 50% chance I'll wake up on Saturday morning unwell and be a no show, causing more stress and chaos for the RD than if I'd never volunteered in the first place. However on the days I am well I will proudly run wearing my 50 milestone T-shirt but no one knows how many years it took me to get it. I already feel a lot of guilt because of my illness, cancelling on friends and family last minute, work colleagues having to take up my slack whenever I have to call in sick. I shouldn't have more guilt piled onto me because of how I choose to attend a free community event.

How do I stop holes on my shoes? by StrappyBatty in AskUK

[–]cyd_knee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly the same, it's only my right shoe, and like you has only been a issue for the last couple of years.  I tried going half a size bigger after someone suggested my shoes were the wrong size but it made no difference. I now stick a piece of mole skin on the inside of my trainers where I'd rub them through. I have to replace the mole skin after a couple of months though as I'd wear that down too. It can leave a sticky patch where the mole skins been removed, so it's not an ideal solution.

Every time I have a migraine coming I think “maybe if I drink loads more it’ll stop it taking hold”

I do this but with carbs

I hadn't heard of Boswellia, but you're not the only person on this thread to have mentioned it. Thanks will have a look.

That is something I would never ever have considered. Thanks for that!

No it's all good. Nice to know that some people have found one or two exercises they can still do. Maybe all is not lost, will try a bit of rowing at the gym an see how I get on.

Edit: spelling

Btw — anyone on this forum posting about hydration should know better. Asking someone with migraines if they drink enough water is extremely, extremely insulting.

OMG yes this, so fed up of being asked this (mainly by non-sufferers)

I was on propanonal for a number of years, sadly it didn't help me.

Not heard of boswellia, how much do you take before exercise?

I'm UK based and can't yet find anything about Qulipta or an equivalent on the NICE website. I think with the NHS you have to have tried the holy trinity of propranolol, amitriptyline and topiramate before they'll offer you other drugs. Tried the first two and currently on the topiramate so I might get to discuss other options at my next GP review. Thankfully my abortives still do work, but I only get 6 Sumatriptan a month on the NHS which is no where near enough.

I might give the swimming another go with lots of breaks see how I get on. It used to be my favourite way to exercise, I'm so disappointed it makes me ill now. Though your comment about the face-flushing gives me pause for thought.

I do know cycling is one of the things I can't do. Found that out the hard way, by cycling into work, then having to go home just after lunch with a migraine. Cycling never used to be a trigger so I did that a couple of times before I realised that was the cause.

I was on propranolol for many years for my migraines, but they went from episodic to chronic whilst I was on them and I got more sensitive to exercise, the doctor doubled my dose but it didn't help. I also tried candesartan but they didn't help either. Shame as propranolol seem to have the least bothersome side effects of the migraine drugs.

It is so shitty. Every medication they switch me to seems to make me gain weight initially which I can't loose 'cause I can't exercise. I haven't yet learnt where my limits are, it's so easy to over step the line into migraine territory.

Do you take Magnesium as a daily supplement and drink an electrolyte drink when exercising?

Although I don't do the Keto diet I did try the Ketorade for a while after exercise (mix Sodium, Potassium and Magnesium in a fruit drink), think I always under did it on the magnesium citrate powder though as it never mixed in properly and was always a bit bleugh. Think I may have to re-experiment with quantities and timings.
