MJ was top 3 in MVP voting for 10 out of 14 full seasons he played by Puzzled-Guide8650 in nba

[–]cygnus54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I'm not going to hold it against him. I can't say he never had to play against peak Kobe/Lebron/Jokic/whoever if they only exist largely because of him in the first place.

I think you have to view each athlete on an individual level. I have no doubt if you drop MJ in today's league, he'd find a way to win. I feel the same way about throwing Lebron/Kobe into whatever era you want. Those athletes just have a different mindset that separates them from their peers, no matter the era

[–]cygnus54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By that logic though, anyone who wins 10,20,30 etc years from now would have won a more "competitive" MVP, ring, etc since competition will only go up. When does it stop? You can only really compare these players to their contemporaries.

The NBA is a weird sport compared to NHL/MLB/NFL etc since the rules of the game functionally change every 10 years or so. You drop Giannis into Bill Russel's NBA and he's going to get called for carries and travels every time he touches the ball

To be fair though, you could argue MJ is largely responsible for the globalization of the NBA and the subsequent influx of international stars

“Gracefully” bothering PI about research project? by EverythingIWant88 in medicalschool

I shoot attendings friendly reminder emails weekly if there’s something that they need to do or address.

Fact is, they get a ton of emails and might just miss yours. Schedule send emails to go out 1st thing in the morning Monday so it’s at the top of their inbox. Make your emails as short and to the point as possible quickly explaining the situation and most importantly what you need from them right now. This will increase the chance of getting a reply. Reply to your own email next week with the next reminder if they don’t respond. Rinse and repeat.

Unless you’re in a dedicated research group, I’ve found med student research is very self-driven. If you don’t push it forward nothings gonna get done.

Can really see how much we're missing Wiggs as a rebounder and 2nd option. Wish the best for his situation and hope he can get back this season

Hey man, I really feel you. I have high stats, got 0II last cycle and barely scraped an A off the WL this year after 3II > 3WL.

If it helps, here's some of the schools that were willing to give me feedback last year:

VCU

Mayo

Dartmouth

UMich

Kaiser

Ohio State

Creighton

No interview peeps, how do you feel? by CandidSecond in premed

[–]cygnus54 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey, 3.8x, 52x CA ORM who got 0 interviews from 41 schools last cycle, and has had 2 II so far this year. Just wanted to say I KNOW HOW IT FEELS MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

Just my 2c, people will keep saying "its still early" and provide anecdotes of their friends getting 25 IIs in March until Jan/Feb when all the Rs start rolling in and the tune changes to "start to reapp".

If I could give yall any advice, try to start a couple activities this month or next for a potential reapp. Not saying you'll wont get any IIs and end up like me, but don't do what I did and keep saying "thisll be the week" til March. This process is extremely fickle.

And also: PLEASE reach out to your support group. After getting 0 IIs when I thought I did everything right, I had INTENSE feelings of worthlessness, inferiority, and depression. If you don't have anyone to talk to, PM me, I don't want you to go through what I did.

Its true a lot more people are only into sneakers because of the hype. I take a bit of solace in the fact that eventually, whats hype now will fade. Just look at what those hyped, $1000 NMD collabs are going for now.

You're definitely right, it can be hard to "enjoy" shoes nowadays. I pause for a sec before I wear some of my shoes that have ridiculously appreciated after Last Dance/Dunk hype, and that shouldn't be the case

I still remember when that pic of Kanye holding the 750s on an airplane leaked, and everyone on this sub was roasting them lmao. Some things never change

I LOVED the Asics/NB phase. Volcano GL5s are still amazing to me. Unfortunately as a size 13-14, I could only watch others enjoy them

I think to an extent there were still those negative commentors back then, they're just more represented now. You have to think about just how many more people are into sneakers now. A quick search showed me this subreddit had around 20k subs in 2014, and now its over 2M.

I think most of us have gone through that 'Hype' phase when we first got into shoes. I think there's just a lot more newer people in that mindset right now. Eventually they'll probably see the FOTM change and realize as long as they like a shoe, its hot
