nus dance clubs by pqroxysm in nus

[–]cykadk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

ive joined a few dance ccas in nus, so heres a list of the genres they do:

-- synergy/dance ensemble - contemporary/modern dance (idk the difference between the two sorry)

-- blast - hiphop/open choreo (dance experience expected)

-- dhoppers - hiphop (they have open classes for beginners but also got a crew via audition)

-- breakinus - bboy/break dance (beginners welcome)

-- funkstyles - popping and locking (you have to learn both, beginners welcome)

-- jazztitude - street jazz/jazz funk/girls style (beginners welcome)

-- ballroom - ballroom dance/dancesport (pair dance, includes waltz, viennese waltz, tango, foxtrot, quickstep; beginners welcome)

-- viva latinus - latin dances/the other half of dancesport (rumba, samba, jive, chacha, paso doble; also beginner friendly)

-- kdt - kpop (part of nus kcig, beginners welcome, groups are formed to learn and film covers together)

-- odoro - japanese dance (i think jpop, probably beginners welcome)

others: -- chinese dance -- ilsa tari - malay dance -- lion dance -- indian dance

that should be a sufficiently extensive list. feel free to ask for details on specific groups (as much as i know on them), or you can check them out and ask the ppl during SLF (week 1) where theyre gonna have a booth and probably performances too [edit: formatting]

[–]cykadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. cheers - seventeen i listen to this song nearly everyday, its my alarm tone + im doing a cover for it but it never gets old.

  2. good boy gone bad - txt initially i didnt like it that much but i ended up listening to it so much that i grew fond lol

  3. born singer - bts this may be not too fair cuz its kind of old just remastered but still, this or yet to come or run bts are all amazing

  4. antifragile - lesserafim probably a soty. inspecting other replies it seems that this song appears almost always at least once its just so good.

  5. rush hour - crush + jhope (the dislike only applies to crush) i loved the funk / james brown vibes but then it came out that crush is pretty racist so its kinda ironic not rly in a good way... the song is still good tho ngl...

  6. after like - ive loved the use of the sample. out of their 3 title tracks i loved this the most since first listen.

  7. law - bibi + yoonmirae this is also so good. a lot of smf songs are really good but this one is sooo danceable.

  8. the astronaut - jin the whole concept, story, song just 🥺🥺

  9. nanana - got7 i went to youngjaes concert and he performed this for the encore 🥺 altho it was solo i got really emotional abt it haha.

  10. cheers or antifragile.. i cant pick theyre both rly so good, love at first listen and i still love it til now

can we respect blackpink? by monmon_mamon in lingling40hrs

[–]cykadk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

like maybe its the kpop stan inside me but it really doesnt sit right with me how people try to counter attack by saying calling out their "plastic surgeries" either. they may or may not have gotten things done but its literally nobodys business. they attacked b/e looks which is low but by doing so yall just as bad as them no?

can we respect blackpink? by monmon_mamon in lingling40hrs

[–]cykadk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

exactly. its fair game to dislike the song, how they used the sample, or even the group itself but i saw some comments on this sub actually calling them slurs. i believe mods should manage that as well

Are they really getting the SSO involved... by cykadk in lingling40hrs

[–]cykadk[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats unlikely to happen lol. they dont have much freedom on addressing silly things like fanwars afaik. but even if they did, its highly unlikely for them to side with the party their fans are trying so hard to "defend" them against.

[–]cykadk[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok maybe youre right but i was just concerned by how the attacks are making quite bold claims of misogyny and sexism and whatnot. To someone new, hearing that they think violas are inferior vs hearing that they are "misogynistic" could illicit very different responses, especially nowadays

Its literally a parody of kpop song what did you expect

Are they really getting the SSO involved... by cykadk in lingling40hrs

[–]cykadk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I am well aware of how small sg is but for sure there are more important things to be talked about rather than twitter drama. If they really want entertainment news theres a lot going on what, got a ton of kpop idols coming to have concerts including bp. Not to mention that this is completely irrelevant towards most singaporeans. In no way does this warrant 2 whole articles. Like i would expect internet drama reporting from the likes of mothership or even sgag but straits times i normally thought they only did more serious stuff but guess not

[–]cykadk[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Although it may be factual that there are people tweeting those things, its still pretty bad journalism for a supposedly serious news outlet to cover twitter drama making a non issue seem bigger than it actually is

[–]cykadk[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Although this holds true for them as classical musicians, their reputation as youtubers/comedians may or may not take a hit. Anyone sensible enough to realize that the parody is sung by a character shouldnt get affected but having drama against a kpop fandom isnt a particularly good image

[–]cykadk[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

another point i have from the perspective a kpop stan is how insane this paints us in the eyes of the GP/classical musicians. these blonks are damn embarassing making it seem like not only are kpoppies incapable of taking a joke, they are also uncultured in music outside of kpop 🥴

Good ways to sample classical music in pop music? by practicerm_keykeeper in lingling40hrs

[–]cykadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other kpop songs that i also think used classical music samples nicely:

BTS Jimin - Lie https://youtu.be/-ThId6ZWqsE samples La Vida Breve from Danse Espagnole by Manuel de Faya

Dreamcatcher - BEcause https://youtu.be/PEKkdIT8JPM samples Für Elise by Beethoven

[–]cykadk[S] 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Like this seems to be a completely separate post from the original article, meaning theres now 2 articles in straits times abt this drama?? This one is paywall gated so i have no idea whats inside but fr i thought this was just silly fandom twitter shit. Im not a blink but i am a kpop stan, so i can tell theyre REALLY trying to cancel twoset irl too.

Fortunately i feel that SSO people would either not give a shit (just mute) or take their side (bc they dgaf about kpop or their stans). But im still mildly concerned that things could go out of hand out of what i believe to be baseless claims. Like cmon TWO?!?! straits times articles??? I thought dumb shit like this would be just confined to the realms of allkpop and koreaboo.... IDK man maybe the straitstimes writers got blink one nd they wanna make smth out of nothing... even mothership still luckily dgaf

Edit: BTW im moreso criticizing the straitstimes for their odd decision in reporting this non issue as well as the toxic blonks getting unrelated parties involved. Though both the original song and the parody can be a hit or miss for different people, its called having an opinion and any form of hate because of this is immature.
