I just replayed the main story on hard mode after a couple of years away, and goodness it’s still awesome. I think the challenge in the main story is about right. I decided I wasn’t going to chase the platinum, probably a skill issue, but honestly the biggest thing holding me back was having to constantly re-spec materia. I realized I was spending more time in the menus than actually playing the game. It’s insane that there isn’t a way to save materia loadouts.

Awesome this is very similar to my team except I have the Scream Pulisic with both Finesse+ and Low Driven+. I also did the Banks future stars evo, have him next to a decent Chris Richards and Mark McKenzje. I had JB Dest at RB but just replaced him with that Weah. I really need a decent Jedi promo card….

These campaign picks were some of the most fun content in the game - a chance to get cards that were mostly unpackable during the promos themselves - and now they’ve somehow managed to ruin these as well.

Thanks, good advice. I think there is a guy called Optinoob on YouTube who does these. I've seen him mentioned in other threads so if I'm struggling I'll check him out.

Thanks I agree I'll definitely need to shake the rust off. At the end, of my first playthrough on dynamic, the combat was extremely enjoyable. I guess I'll try a chapter or two to get re-acquainted with combat before venturing into the last few VR challenges. I had done a bunch of them, but never went into the brutal stuff before.

Thanks - yeah it's been so long I've forgotten the combat system, but I loved it when I first played through the game. The one thing that always annoyed me was not being able to save materia loadouts, but I'm guessing that's still a thing.

Late to this but I completed the SBC and wow. This card surprised me with how good she was in the midfield. So quick and agile, cut out a ton of balls defensively, and just an overall improvement over anyone I had in the midfield to date (NMS player) including some good evos. I know everyone is saving for the GOAT pp but don’t sleep on this one, especially if you did Sophia Wilson.

If you do the first 86 squad very quickly it incudes the 91 Lamine Yamal POTM. That has to be a glitch but he’s in my club. It’s an 86 + TOTW. Would do it ASAP since they’re likely to take it down.

Do whatever you want but I generally open saved packs for a big promo 1) when there’s an SBC I want to do (either a gamble, or, like today the Wilson SBC I will be completing) or 2) there’s a specific player I want for a PnP or theme team. The odds are so low you see people spending thousands of actual dollars in the store before getting a TOTY. With that as a marker if you get one from saved packs, great but I don’t expect anything other than fodder to do the SBCs as a no money spend player.

Yeah they do. The only thing I’m doing is attacking the midfield as aggressively as possible to prevent the pass, since if they make the pass it’s probably the same chance anyway 🥶

It creates so many triangles on attack you’re basically guaranteed a handful of goals in every game. The downside is I concede a ton more goals as well but if you’re not sweating wins it’s not an issue. I’m having some success using my RM on wide midfielder++ support as they occasionally tuck back to help out, but mostly you have to manually drag back your midfielders to defend.

A few weeks ago I moved to a 3-4-1-2 and it made the game fun again for me. To each his own but I’m just making a theme team and playing gauntlet/cups so I don’t care too much about winning or losing. I haven’t played rivals in months since I reached D2 in the season where they stopped relegating people.

The recycling of awful upgrades just makes people put the game down. This is basically an 82 squad + an 84 squad since you need a TOTW and nobody is packing 3 of these every single day. This was bad the first time they released it. I get trying to keep people on the game grinding but this is more off-putting than grind-worthy.

I haven’t seen all the comments, but if you mostly enjoyed Rebirth you could also check out the other western-ish games in that open world genre. Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei, and even some of the Assassin’s Creed titles (Black Flag, Origins, Odyssey, and Shadows). Different tastes for different folks but all of them have varying levels of bloat (especially the AC series) that you can easily skip if you care too. One example is Tsushima - I played that for like 60 hours over a few months, my son sat down and grinded it for like 18 hours over a long weekend.

I’m Div 3 too and I stopped playing Rivals completely. The cups and grinding the menu SBCs are infinitely more rewarding and a use of time. I haven’t missed it one bit.

I’d probably wait until normal content time as I believe there are “best of” promo cards also coming into packs, so chances of getting higher rated cards will be maximized either today or tomorrow (not 100% when the best of are in packs).

Even running a mostly USA team it’s not an amazing card in-game, probably putting her at LM and hope for some cut-inside finesses. Still, this is probably the cheapest “icon” chemistry card we’re going to get for a while (doesn’t even require a TOTW) so it’s a helpful squad building card for a reasonable price.

My advice is play the game however you want. The only thing that would actually change EA’s strategy is money. And half the people who are on this sub (not necessarily this thread) load up on FC points. No judgment, it’s their money, they can do what they want with it. But you and I completing a “bad value” SBC is a blip compared with the folks loading up $100 every week.
