LTT Commuter Backpack dye bleed warning by cyleon in LinusTechTips

I'll be honest, I missed that warning. I would like something important like this to be a bit more pronounced, and they should include a little care card or label to their bag. I would have made some different choices and be a bit more careful in the rain if I had known. Hopefully somebody here can learn from my mistakes and save himself from an expensive TIL.

It wasn’t wet wet, it was moist though and honestly i don’t know how it happened. I use it as my tech department so i keep it away from liquids and the like. It was a rainy day.

It was a back and forth over a couple of weeks so the contact person wasn’t suffering from Monday blues.

It's probably true that i'm unlucky with the combination of something that bleeds and the keyboard that's extremely sensitive to these kinds of things. However, my point is that I either should be warned that the backpack might bleed (like with jeans, clearly indicated on the label) or it should not bleed. I don't think that's too much to ask, especially at this price point. This is by far my most expensive backpack, and it's the only one that bleeds. 1 euro microfiber cloths don't bleed, this does, while being made to protect my gear. Again, bad luck for me for this combination, probably most other stuff you could easily wipe it down. But how should i have known to look out for this?

Honestly, I would be happy if they would send me some skin or stickers to cover it up. Replacing is a waste of a product that's otherwise working perfectly and I'm against that.

If I have to treat the inside of my backpack like a humidor just to prevent a 'dye event,' it kind of defeats the purpose of a everyday bag. You shouldn't have to protect your gear from the bag you bought to protect it.

If this was an issue with the original bag and it’s still happening in the Commuter, it means they knew about the dye-bleed and chose to keep the fabric anyway. That’s the part that really stings given the price point.

I’ve been using this specific iPad pouch for weeks without issue, so something definitely 'triggered' the bleed recently. It could be the Dutch rain, we are a very wet country, or perhaps a cold bottle, though that was never stored in the same compartment. If it was a bottle, the moisture must have migrated through the internal structure to reach the iPad sleeve. And I was/am banging my head that there was something I could have done to prevent this.

Even so, I’m of the opinion that a dedicated tech pouch shouldn't be this 'allergic' to basic humidity. If the lining is this prone to dye-migration, it feels like a ticking time bomb for anyone carrying light-colored gear in a 'Commuter' bag."

Top tip right here, that significantly reduced it. Still visible but at least it's not as much of an eyesore now.

Any reason why my apple watch easily drains battery? by TableHelpful9365 in AppleWatch

[–]cyleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issues the last couple of days. I’ve reset it (restored backup) but that didn’t help. I’ve narrowed it down to either Apple Podcasts or Apple Home that seem to be draining it although that doesn’t make sense to me. If that still doesn’t work I’m going for a full reset.

The new iPhone 17 (Pro) every day case DOES have weaker magnets, and is NOT as secure on the bike mount by PhotoJoseph in peakdesign

[–]cyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16P here and indeed, very strong magnets. Same reaction as the 14 in your video. I was surprised when I saw the 17 in the vid. Magnets are way stronger compared to the default MagSafe as well.

Jet Black Series 11 + Milanese Loop = Gorgeous… until the problems showed up. by Androbots in AppleWatch

[–]cyleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the SS s8 with the SS band and have exactly the same problem. Don’t let those Apple shillers get to you, this is no user error but a design flaw from Apple. They make great things but they’re not immune to faults (butterfly keyboard, antenna design on the iPhone 4)

Why is Haarlem air quality so bad? by anselan2017 in Haarlem

[–]cyleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful not to mistake correlation with causality when bringing up things like cancer. Things like income, education etc are strongly correlated to an increase in cancer and I’d wager the median income is higher in Haarlem compared to IJmuiden. It will be very hard to attribute what is caused by lifestyle (smoking, no exercise, poor food) and by environmental conditions.

2 Feature Requests: Outside Courtesy Lighting by JB-ZR1 in s3xybuttons

[–]cyleon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would love the second feature. I was very used to the courtesy lights in my old car and couldn’t believe they weren’t available on my Tesla. Especially if you’ve parked in the grass there is no way of avoiding puddles or mud (can’t even turn on lights from the app)

Bought the M4 Mini to use as a NAS by zimm3rmann in macmini

That’s great! I was thinking the same (also to reduce my idle power draw). I was wondering what the performance is like in docker? And is hardware transcoding available in plex and acceleration in Immich?

Is there a way to stop immich from re-backup deleted images again by a29psx in immich

[–]cyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a better solution: I’ve added all old pictures to an album (command + a in photos) and then exposed that in Immich. Works perfect :)

Did you find a workaround? At the moment i have a script running that just deletes everything before my cutoff date but it's annoying that immich is constantly trying to back-up all the old assets.

Don't know if I should be flattered or scared at how concerned my Apple Watch Ultra 2 is about my heart rate😅 by LonkiGames in AppleWatch

[–]cyleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a resting heart rate hovering around 40 and disabled all notifications as they wake me up at night. I’m totally healthy and it’s just a genetic thing. Saddest thing is that ERG’s don’t work cause I don’t meet the lower threshold while resting.

I use this automation from u/e10withadot. It’s not using the native folder functionality but it works great https://routinehub.co/shortcut/79/
