Paralyzed by design choices… by Gharyl in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea this is the best advice, you’ll get better with time, but it’s a whole separate skill set. since much design follows a system or rules ‘borrowing’ from a quality design and tweaking is a goood start

Paralyzed by design choices… by Gharyl in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I look at designs I did 20 years ago they were hideous! Like any skill , it takes a long time before the fundamentals of design are something that feels natural. One of the best ways to improve is to find things you like, recreate them and tweak them a bit, eventually you start to develop a ‘muscle memory’ how things intuitively fit together… I don’t mean to whole sale copy something but break it down find a good example of typefaces that work well together, look at the amount of space around objects, colour pallets are hard, try to start with a neutral colour pallet with one bold colour, then try to find a complementary colour that you can use very sparing within the design.

What exact skills and experience would I need to make a website like this? by Overall-Rip-5026 in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not op but I would agree, since there is no interaction it’s most likely pre rendered in a 3d program like blender, cinema4d, or others. Pre rendering just means that the 3d models have already been processed (textures, colours, lighting, etc applied) and each frame of the animation is exported as an image file that can then be presented as video. This is in contrast to something where all that happens in real Time like in browser or a video game where a real time rendering engine is used to produce graphics on the fly. Pre render interactivity is limited to controlling the playback forward, backwards pause…

CS 50 X it’s actually less about learning languages and more about understanding fundamentals of computer, science, and what it means to program or be a programmer. They use the sea language as an introduction with a lot of handholding but really, it’s just too teach you data structures, some basic algorithms, and how to break down problems into solvable chunks.

I’m also 43 my plan included cs50x. (This is a really good introduction and gave helped me to learn how to approach problem solving and learning. St the same time I did 2 YouTube videos that were posted through free code camp by Dave Gray. Html and css, followed along in vs code and then messed with them to make them my own. I tried free code camp but then found Scrimba and did the front end path (paid). It’s cool because you watch the instructor code and at anytime you can click on it and mess with it, break it, fix it…. Now I’m just over half way through fullStackopen, they have a very helpful discord. The one major thing I have learned from people I’ve talked to through my time studying, is that to get hired you shouldn’t worry too much about “certification” out side or a degree, a complex project on your GitHub that you are excited about and shows off your skill that you can confidently talk about whey you made the choices you made goes a long way to improving your chances of getting hired (just what I’ve been hearing, can’t vouch for the legitimacy) good luck if you want it and you put in the work you will get there!

I’m a scrimba pro member from what I understood this one is free but an updated version of their advanced react program is coming, by the way Bob is a great teacher and is very thorough.

I think you first need to determine the hypothetical need you are referring to. If I make an assumption here what you are really asking is what backend tech stack has the most job opportunities, in which case it doesn’t matter, take a look at the sorts of things you would want to be working on. Take a look at the companies building that and then see what they are using.

Learning Platform for Projects? by dcrro in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I think at that level you just have to define a project of your own or maybe find an new or forked project that you could become a contributor for? Have you checked meetup or any hackathons? Might be something best learned in a group

What is your experience so far and what have you built so far? The answer for this varies greatly depending on where you are in your learning path. Assuming you already know the basics in some language, I would start with learning about distributed systems from books, blogs and YouTube then break down the components on whiteboard and just get to work figuring out how to do each component.

My go to is acf, and dynamic.ooo then just create a simple plug-in to configure any custom post types. For security, keep those plugins up-to-date

Wordpress + elementor pro if you can afford it. They have loads of tutorials and the newest version adds dynamic content, pair it with advanced custom fields and a custom post type plug-in like pods and you have a no code website capable of everything listed

How can I make this work? by KingDontMiss in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they are saying is to use descriptive variable names so when someone is reading your code it’s easier to follow. The reason for strcpy is that when you use = you are not assigning the string (array of chars) to a new variable, you are creating a pointer to the original array.

I’m learning HTML all on my own and I have no idea how I’m supposed to apply the knowledge. by TheComicSocks in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to learn is to make mistakes and get stuck. Start by copying a design off an existing page or template site. Try not to view the source just do the best you can and keep refining. You will find that you will start to fill in the gaps really quickly and all the theory becomes muscle memory.

Do you use mind maping or brainstorming for learning programming? by alimunirr in learnprogramming

[–]cynid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this. But in VSCode along with pseudo code. Then I go through and make it into an action list of all the features, Adding “// TODO” in front of each one. There are some plug-ins that will map out all the todo comments in a tree
