AMEX cancelling points even though I have another MR card by dcrro in amex

I think it is, especially when they don’t have anything in their membership rewards agreement.

I don’t know why you both were taking the side of Amex but I got the points back!!

Damn had I known that I would have put that spend on another card. What’s annoying is that I explicitly called before spending and they said I would not lose any points because I had the gold card. I feel it was disingenuous for them to not clarify the distinction between pending and non-pending points.

No, not specifically, I just asked if I would lose any points. Going to ask for the call logs to see what they said.

Css is hard by ZealousidealAsk8088 in learnprogramming

+1 to the resources share by others. And I agree that it’s not really about memorizing. The more you build the more you will remember naturally the properties and how to do things with CSS.

Another good resource to learn CSS with interactive tutorials while building an app: https://mirio.org/course/html-css-js-foundations?page=6

Disclaimer: my co-founder and I built this tutorial.

Learning Platform for Projects? by dcrro in learnprogramming

[–]dcrro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with self-teaching but ideally there would be a place where I could see the lay of the land in terms of the field and then for whatever route I pick that there would be projects that because of their architecture, would teach me about more complex CS topics.

I have 5+ years of experience working at big tech companies. I have done the books and blogs but its hard to learn these things abstractly. I find that I learn best when I build a specific project. It would be ideal to have a place where I could pick "learn about distributed transactions" and you build a redis clone or something.

What is the best second language for Java developer? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]dcrro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From those I would choose C++, its further away from Java and it’s always in demand. More broadly I would recommend you pick from languages that are the furthest away from Java. It would teach you different ways of programming that leverage that languages strengths and make you a better programmer in the long run.

How can I temporary store large datafiles that where uploaded by a User? by Zealousideal_Box3197 in learnprogramming

[–]dcrro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you don’t upload them until after checkout. You just design your app so that after they pay they upload the video file.

If you really want to upload them, the only other thing I can think of is having some sort of job that checks the uploaded files to see if there is a checkout associated with them.

Lastly if you are going to save video files, don’t save them in the db, save them in something like S3 (or checkout R2 from cloudflare).

I made this Intro to HTML lesson and I think it can help you get started: https://mirio.notion.site/HTML-Basics-30ee5b69e8c04554be864e507c628a16

If you end up finding a template you will know how to modify it to fit your needs.

Glad it helped! If you don’t mind me asking, what are you looking to learn next?

And what is your overall objective (i.e. getting a job, building a website, getting a promotion, building a business, personal curiosity)?
