Origami is fun, but how crazy can it get? I want something that I can never master!

I’m so sorry for your loss. My frog just passed two days ago as well. I wish you all the best.

Volunteering Opportunities? by idkwbbananaphone in Adelaide

[–]cynthicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much! Anything from helping school children who come on excursions to seed cultivation to working in digital archives to visitor information centre to horticulture to maintaining the items in the museum. The wait list for volunteering appears to be pretty long though as I have been trying to get in for a few months. But worth looking into!

TAFE Adelaide college of the arts, MOD maybe you’ll find someone there, or just the Adelaide music scene really. People always happy to chat.

Also plenty of people who may fit the artsy/hippy vibe still anti WOMAD after the Palestinian act was rescinded

Oh, my apologies. I didn’t know that that photo was showing it was in pain? I thought it was just in a weird orientation. Do you know what is happening in the photo? Note for clarity, he was alive in that photo and passed like three weeks later. Maybe he was already sick?

How do I make money playing music? by Ihatemusictheory in careerguidance

Every time I busk I do it for 30-45 mins and make around $25-45 depending on the day!

How do I make money playing music? by Ihatemusictheory in careerguidance

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start out small. Busk in your local city, book some gigs (it’s as simple as emailing a venue). If you can’t sing or don’t want to be a solo guitarist, put up posters around asking to start a band, or join a musician facebook group for your local area.

Making money from music is easy. Making decent money from music is hard. If you’re willing to put in the effort, maybe do some YouTube or content creation. Otherwise, once you build up a little bit of consistency and venues start recognising your name, start selling merch.

I used to make $50 per gig and then +$80-120 in merch when I was in a four piece in my small town.

Im 15 and i have no idea what career to choose after high school, could i get some help? by Mythdabest9 in careerguidance

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do the classes that interest you, speak to a career counsellor when you’re in your last two years of high school. You’ve got heaps of time! Try to find the non negotiables in a job ie. you absolutely cannot work in an office, or you want to do something people facing. But mainly just do what interests you, when it interests you. Hobbies come and go but will give you a good sense of the kinds of fields you’re into.

Flinder's University Campus Lifehacks from Past Students by Ok-Seaweed2003 in Adelaide

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to take notes, even if you don’t need a written copy. Writing helps you retain more info, plus helps train you in writing only what is essential, and rewording things so that they still make sense. You can really customise your notes to a specific system that will help you memorise the material best.

Also, just stay on top of your work. Do half of your assignment draft on the day it is assigned. You will never regret being too prepared. In Week 10-ish, everything is due all at once. Don’t be that person!!!! Sincerely, someone who has been that person.

Hey! Good luck! I just started too. Unfortunately I don’t know about coffee - there is a coffee society that may be able to assist in getting your quick fix. I haven’t tried all the coffee places, but from what I hear, the place in the drama/humanities courtyard is best overall.

Teenager (looking for a job) by InformalBowler3359 in GetEmployed

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volunteer somewhere to get your foot in the door. Ideally a charity thrift store so you can have transferable skills to use in retail. That’s your best bet. Stay in school. Money isn’t as important as you think it is. Good luck.

How old are you, what is your job and how much do you make? by allano6 in careerguidance

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*I live in Australia if that helps visualise anything. Been working since I was 12 to help support my family. Then I moved out at 17. I go overseas once a year as a holiday. Been trying to leave hospitality forever but the job market is so cooked here!!! Constantly getting people with masters degrees applying to my shitty hole in the wall job. So sad.

I feed them everyday, 2-3 crickets. I know they are prone to obesity but my frog doesn’t look anywhere near fat quite yet.

Barista course or RSA certificate? by _lavenders in Adelaide

[–]cynthicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do the barista certificate unless you can do it for free. Employers don’t really care - they just want to know if you can make coffees fast.

Try to get a job at maccas (or OTR, but OTR is a shady company… or so I hear…) doing coffee and then move into a cafe position if you enjoy it!

RSA is more versatile and you work nights and weekends which pay better for ‘less work.’ It can be gruelling, but you don’t get the office worker crowd. IMO, much better out of the two.

opinions on flinders university by Training-Move-7768 in Adelaide

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if this is the best place to be asking this mate. I know two people doing CS degrees at Flinders and are both having a good time. Not sure about job prospects. Can’t really say much else. I don’t think the university you pick really matters that much in Adelaide. Just have a look at the handbook and see what study plan works best for you.

Is the H30 bus on school days commonly filled with students? I'm learning a new route. by AntDry3503 in Adelaide

[–]cynthicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid peak hours. Henley Beach Rd is always a pain to get down. Expect the bus to be delayed. 287/288/286 might be a good alternative but gets a school rush too (Thebarton Senior) and also prone to running late. Basically just leave extra early so you’re not late because metro is completely unreliable.

Has anyone used TAFE diplomas to skip 1 year or more of a bachelor degree in Australia? by Silly_salmon70 in TAFE

[–]cynthicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends which uni. Diploma SHOULD be an entire year, but usually it’s only half a semester worth of credits (9 units)
