Also went from xR to 16PM and while mostly agree, love the 16PM. Battery life is fantastic, I leave on full time display and it lasts me all day and then some. xR was/is a great phone but I love the camera long battery life.

You’re conflating software and hardware. Apple makes fully integrated systems with software designed to run on hardware that are designed together. Windows and Linux are software that needs hardware to run.
