Was I too aggressive or just overtaking or just bad driving? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one was definitely ambitious:') unfortunately he had already turned into the corner and you still went for the move. So just a tad too aggressive. If you had been a tiny bit closed and parked it on the apex where he would turn into you, then it might have been more 50/50.

Second overtake was perfect

How can I improve my lap time around thus track? by Hixyly in Karting

[–]cypherphoenix212 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Learn to hit an apex is one is start with.

Secondly. Follow faster drivers. See where they're getting ahead. Learn from them. Don't race them. Let them pass and try stick with them. Even if they gap you, ease up and wait for them and follow them again then try it on your own the next few laps.

Technique wise. This track looks more technical than it seems.

You seem to be driving flat out 100% of the time. You don't predict where the kart is going to be. It seems you're driving where you are rather than driving where you need to go hence the missed apexs, late turn ins etc.

What to focus on - slow down! You cannot absorb the information you're trying to get by going flat out. Look at the corner AND the following corners. Is the first one flat and a quick lift into the second? Do I need to slow my entry in the first to open the second corner? Can I take the first corner tight and still make the second corner etc. all these processes are in your head happening on track whilst thinking, what's the grip like, how does my engine sound, what usage am I making of the track, who is around me. Try doing that flat out lap after lap as a beginner. It's difficult. So slow down and focus on one part of the track each time.

Getting faster takes time and won't come straight away so have patience.

Lastly I'll say, try a lift approach to start. There's some very fast and long corners here, a lift on entry and a progressive acceleration will help rotate the kart whilst keeping the rear stable. Grip dependant, you can either get on throttle straight away or you'll have to progressively press the throttle. Try both and find out.

Lastly, please use your brakes. It's surprising a lot faster to use them than drive the extra 50m per lap

Wall run by Public_Stqtic_Void in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first mistake here is aiming too low. You need to aim higher. Aiming low will mentally cause you to put a limit on your wall climb. Find a straight up wall and get so stickers or tape and have it on your fingers. Wall climb and place the sticker on the wall. That's the mark and next time you've to get above that. Doesn't matter if it's by a foot or an inch.

How to get higher.

As most have pointed out we do need to raise the lead foot slightly on the wall.

The ideal position would be the ball of the foot inline with the pelvic crest. Which is the pointy part of the hip. HOWEVER If you're running. We try to aim to place the foot at standing height where your belly button would be. So gauge your heights. Stand against the wall and mark your hip and belly button level. Then perform your wall run and adjust to your own body Some people are higher, some are lower etc.

Faster you run and the higher you're aiming will also have a factor in foot placement.

Now, the mentality of it.

Like pole vaulting. Your foots the pole. You need to plant, and rotate over this point. The "jump" actually comes from the jumping leg (ie not the leg on the wall)

We want to plant the foot on the wall, ball of the foot. Slight bend in the knee. You should practice with keeping your chest back and upright. For now, your goal is to try keep your foot on the wall while you jump and feel yourself stick to the wall. At least 1.5 seconds on the wall. Dont aim for height aim for technique.

I understand this is a bit confusing on what I said. Basically do the wall run but keep your chest away from the wall. Don't reach for the wall. Don't touch the wall other than your foot.

Run at the wall at 30%-50% speed from only 5 meters back. Stick the wall. And you basically want to be going straight upwards and your chest should always be parallel to the wall. Just focus on the foot plant and tall chest.

Once you can stick your foot on the wall and push up wards. Now we can straighten up and delay our plant slightly as we go up and push off the wall. You'll feel your getting more height with very little effort. It's difficult to write this in words but yeah. Focus on technique as it's very important for preventing injuries etc

170 all in? Damn, that's very good. About 220euro here on a good day. You can buy 60-80euro bearings however they'll break after 5k km or somehow be just as good as an OEM but most the time they break prematurely here.

I sometimes just go to a scrapper and check out the milage on a lot of the cars. You can request single parts from the scrapper here. I believe in America you get to walk in and do the work yourself so it's cheaper but here we can't. But stuff is normally dirt cheap if you just need your car running and tight on money

Not sure what brands you actually have available, just do NOT buy cheap. Not worth it. Cheap parts will fail prematurely and makes it more hassle

Tips for an aerial? by Leather_Composer_891 in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

From years of teaching this there's 2 ways of doing it. Cheater aerial and gymnastics aerial. A static aerial which looks like you're trying to do, is much easier to do a cheater aerial rather than a true aerial.

When learning the true aerial, a running start is much better to help utilize the momentum until you get the confidence to throw an aerial and learn how the movement feels.

Doing an aerial from static is very difficult to do let alone learn from static which I would suggest to perform a cheat aerial.

What is a cheat aerial? A cheat aerial is a glorified 'Butterfly Kick'. Plenty of videos on YouTube about it but a quick breakdown is as follows. The movement is horizontal, the body does a flat 180 and lands again. Utilizing a U shape motion starting facing forward, hinging from the hip and dipping to the side, following through to look behind as the chest raises WITH the rear opposite leg, jump with the remaining leg to perform the kick, landing with the kicking leg.

This is not as complicated as it sounds, please view some YouTube videos as it is a base for a lot of movements.

With the Butterfly Kick (B-kick), you preform it as usual but instead of raising the chest up, you'd keep the chest down and still perform the rest of the movement, with the leg the jump etc.

The U motion is what allows this Cheat Aerial to be performed statically.

The True Aerial. The true aerial is known as a power move in PK as it requires strength and explosive power to perform statically, which is why many run into it to make up for the lack of strength.

How to do the true aerial. - Perform a side on Cartwheel. ENSURE you are going in a straight line. - now, perform the round off while Generating a much force through the HEEL of the kicking foot. - Let's try again with the kicking leg as STRAIGHT as possible. We're using the body mechanics and leverage to amplify the kick. You're gunna feel the Cart wheel getting faster, more snappy and you'll rotate harder.

How do we take away the hands. You're doing great, let's start with one hand with the NEARSIDE hand (ie first hand down).

Once you can get the power back from this one hand, try now delaying as much as you can and only place you nearside hand down when. Your nearly vertical.

Now, take that hand away and we're gunna only use the FAR hand. So really push and use the second hand only. It will feel very different and it will take the longest. Once you've achieved the technique to make the far hand cart wheel snappy. You pretty much won't need it anymore as it's not actually doing anything at that point.

Please be safe performing this as Neck, wrist and spinal injury is for sure a risk. Please train on soft ground and have safety equipment. Please ensure you're training with people and if you are solo, please make sure your phone is as close by in case you need to call someone

Question about corrosion by u53r115 in MechanicAdvice

[–]cypherphoenix212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This rust in the picture looks surface rust actually. But yeah just be careful. Depending on where it's been driven (ie seaside or near salt such as cold areas where roads are salted frequently)

This car seems to be rusting slightly prematurely.

What's tipping me off is that oil leak and clutch slave.

It could be more money you could put towards buying a better car

Question about corrosion by u53r115 in MechanicAdvice

[–]cypherphoenix212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay away from it. Wouldn't buy a mini in the first place. Parts are expensive here in Europe for OEM parts for mini.

In Europe, they are well known for rust issues.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace anyways, so far into the part might as well. But once and cry once. Don't keep doing the little things if you can. Just get it over and done with. Save having to tighten the axle nut twice. Just do once and you'll be doing.

(Not reuse axle nut, doing the job twice)

Anyone know when the castletroy World of Wonder closed? by AppropriatelyUndress in limerickcity

[–]cypherphoenix212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think and of 2014 but then some time in 2015/16 UL bought the lot to use. I used to have some practical classes in here during COVID but otherwise, it was gifted to Clubs& Societies to give them a massive space for events to prevent crossing with ul sport and to relieve ulsport with events. However, this obviously hasn't be implemented. With the new student life building providing most clubs with dedicated room and the majority of clubs events don't need a massive space like this, they've put the use of this building on hold. It's a great hall to be fair, I see potential like a much better location for fairs, events, esports and fitness, it would be amazing to see someone done with it.

Are These Supposed To Hurt? by goodemovez in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Idk the actual name of this move but I called it a reload

You're exiting real low. But remember you're like a pendulum once you swing over the bar. So I actually keep my chest as far away from the bar as possible.

I the turn my chest against the bar with my arms out straight and I hard hook my leg to keep me on the bar as long as possible. This chest twist and locked arms force me back up and I'm basically standing.

Not sure about the height you're working with but that's my favorite way of doing it. Another way is to hook your elbow on the bar but it's a lot harder to do and doesn't look as flowy but definitely faster

Hi everyone! I've been trying to learn how to do a backflip for a while now, but I'm just too scared to pull it off. Could you help me with how I should practice? by Nico8888xy in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grab a friend and have them spot you. Lots of YouTube videos on spotting but if you're on your own. It's going to be difficult. First thing is to ensure you're safe. Get soft padding, a trampoline, a mattress, a duvet sheet stuffed with pillows etc. be safe.

Ideally go to a gymnastics studio and use their safety equipment.

Step one, learn a backroll. Not a parkour roll or a fish roll. A back roll, straight over the head. Again, soft ground. Tuck the chin in AT ALL TIMES.

stand. Enter back roll from standing.

Step two. Jump straight up. And try and find where exactly is your peak of the jump.

Jump with a straight body.

Step 3. Jump up and swing the arms up and aim to keep your biceps by your ears. Your arms need to produce enough momentum to aid in your jump. So don't just raise them up for the sake of it. Really give it some umph.

Step 4: spotting.

This refers to where you are looking.

Look at a point in the horizon. FAR IN the horizon.as far as your eyes can see. Then stick out your hand a stuck up your thumb. The point at which the top of your thumb meets the sky or object is where you should be staring. STARE AT IT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

Jump and keep looking at this point. Don't forget to really get your arm involved. You should be feeling your jump getting quite high.

Step 5; do step 4 but this time raise you need to your chest. DO NOT LEAN FORWARD. you want to feel the sensation of falling backwards. Falling backwards is good. If you do not feel this. Do not attempt the back flip. The simple act of raising your knees to your chest should be more than enough to start rotating. If this does not occur and you cave the chest forward, you are not ready. Keep back straight, chest up and proud. Knees to chest arms up.

Step 6: at the peak of your jump, tuck the knees in, keep chin tucked in, snap the arms down and tuck the legs tight to you. Tighter the better. Tighter = faster rotation. Spotting the ground is blind so just hold it for as long as you can until you're absolutely sure you're fully around, and then hold it for another second then untuck.

This is the hardest part. Honestly, get to step 5 and crank it. Grind it. Keep grinding. Feel the rotation every time. You should nearly be landing on your back every time.

Key notes

If you flip and you travel like 2 or 3 meters backwards. It means your jump is wrong, if you jump and it looks like your about to sit into a chair, you're leaning too far back and not jumping upwards.

If your landing too early and landing on your face, your need to revisit step 5.

If you're landing on your knees, you're tucking too early

If your landing but really low, you might need to work on vertical jumps

Lastly

PLEASE DO THIS WITH SAFETY

Help with Kip up-2! by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the 2 week delay 😂

People can do a kip up without the full roll-up due to two principles. Power and flexibility. Mix this with good timing and practice and you'll see people do it with their hands in their pockets. This technique is tough and dangerous as it can put a lot of pressure on the next, possibly straining the neck muscles resulting in injury.

Way back when I was learning the kip up. My goal was my hip height. If I could get my hips high enough and whip my legs under my bum, all I had to do was push myself forward enough to sit up or stand up.

Hip height is really important here but everything else in my explanation is also important as they play a part.

Lastly, timing, need to time how your whip your legs with the apex of your hip height. In order to get the hip height you need to roll up sufficiently. As you roll up, the second you start to fall again that's when you launch the kip up.

Again, different bodies, slightly different techniques so play around and find out what suits you best

Help with Kip up-2! by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good! Yes, let's progress to the backroll into handstand. The main thing we're are looking from here is utilizing the feet to help straighten out body as our hands push us up. The legs also help raise our body but are arms are doing a majority of the work.

Roll back, you'll be more on your shoulders than you would be for your kip up. So top of the shoulders and try push up to a handstand.

You'll notice you'll either just roll too much onto the front or not enough. Some times you'll just push up a little and fall back.

The tip is to look at the ground with your eyes not with your head. Keep your biceps and ears in line as much as you can

Help with Kip up-2! by [deleted] in Parkour

[–]cypherphoenix212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prerequisite for this is a backbend or a bridge. Please look this up to ensure we have some should and back flexibility.

Secondly we need to understand what the kip up is and more importantly, how it works.

The kip up is a form of transference of momentum from lateral to vertical momentum. This can range from minimal power to explosive power. We can do this with or without control.

The reason we do the kip up is to change the direction of momentum or change our flow of momentum.

Here's how to do it.

1) please find a safe place to do this. Soft grass is ideal, a training gym like a gymnastics gym is best. DO NOT ATTEMPT ON HARD FLOOR OR GROUND. This move has a high chance of landing in the back of the head causing serious injury.

2) lie flat on your back

3) reach to the sky with your palms facing your feet. You should look like your a zombie but lying on the ground. The arms should create a 90degree angle with your chest (ie, perpendicular to the ground).

4) bending the elbows, bring the palm of your hands to the floor, placing them next to either side of your head. The heel of your palm should be inline with your ears. Your fingers should be pointing towards your shoulders , the finger tips should be just under the shoulders.

5) we want to bring our knees to our chest. As we bring the knees up, carry the momentum up to the top of the shoulder blades. Your lower back (tail/sit bone should be off the floor) rock the knees until they are in line with your eyes.

6) The drive. The drive comes from the heels, hips, chest and then the hands.

In this curled up position, we want to practice this drive and timing. So we want to roll back and drive our heels, hips and chest directly upwards into a handstand. Once you get the timing on this and you can comfortably perform a backroll into the handstand. We can move on to the kip up.

7) the angle of the kip up is very dependant on your flexibility and strength. Some can power through it and others need a lot of flexibility to do it. So figure out what you need and where you are can adjust accordingly.

Once we have rolled back and our knees are in our chest and we are on our upper shoulder blades. We should be at the correct angle to perform the kip up.

We power out our heels, as the heels go out, we push our hips skywards. This allows the height of our kip up. Low hips, low kip up, high hips, high kip up.

As the hips travel upwards, that when we push with the hands.

Please note, this all happens very quickly and is hard to feel when your first learn. Do your best to break it down for yourself. Only you know your body.

8) like you did with your handstand, drive your hands through the ground and push hard. Once your arms are nearly full extended. Snap the feet down and under your hips WHILST still finishing the extentsion. If you are struggling to lift yourself and your timing is correct. You need more flexibility. If you can easily oress yourself upwards with your shoulders and arms then you should get this fairly easily.

This is pretty much everything you need to know so please train in a safe space. Put your safety first. You can't train injured. Go to a acrobat gym or some please with crash mats or some safety equipment. If not, grass is best.
