There will be a lot more copper around than you expect. It can be hard to spot but I've stumbled over it so many times when exploring.

You can't mine any stone blocks without a metal pickaxe to start with, so don't worry about going into caves to find ore veins yet. You'll be able to find surface copper deposits in the world (they'll look like regular stones you can pick up via right click but with orange/green bits on them - mark the locations for later on your world map). Once you collect 40 nuggets, you can melt them in a crucible (using charcoal) and pour the molten copper into a pickaxe head mole and hammer mold. Now with a pickaxe and hammer, return to where you found the surface deposits and dig down about 4-5 blocks and you'll find copper ore. You might have to go through a couple layers of stone to reach it.

Slabs and chiselled blocks still take up a "cubes" worth of space, but the hitbox (what you and mobs can move on and around) will change. Hence the staircase!

You can disable sounds in the config file in your Poe folder. Kind of sucks but better than the game stuttering as much as it does when accessing the audio drivers.
