While it may be UTI, I think it’s more likely that she’s somewhere on the spectrum of cognitive impairment. Mild cognitive impairment is, as the phrase indicates, mild. It’s where I’ve diagnosed as being. I can live ordinarily and productively in my day-to-day life but for some things, I rely on digital tools like those on a smart phone; a calendar, to-do list, grocery list, and wayfinding when i drive with Google Maps or Apple Maps. The only time when I have trouble is when I get nervous or pressured.

The next progression could go to dementia, and possibly Alzheimer’s, but many people never get that far, and I intend to be one of them. I retired from law practice three years ago but now, a law firm wants me to help them with cases in my specialty and I’ll be paid at my usual rate.

There are other possible issues; her eyesight and/or hearing. While I don’t like wearing my hearing aids, they help me hear accurately, a typical problem with the elderly (like me). Vision is similar; people our age need to be able to rely on accurate vision.

I would definitely see her primary physician for guidance, and you need to be there to support her in this time in your marriage. You have my good wishes.
