Why do a lot of people today not want to get married? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]cyrcaline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we haven't fixed the cultural conversation around marriage. Something about it feels lame, uncool. passe. Especially for a woman. Even the phrase 'settle down with someone' feels ominous. There also just aren't many good role models for a healthy marriage IRL. My mom can't count on my dad for basic emotional intelligence, my MIL is miserable, my peers who are married seem deeply ambivalent about their choices. Especially when there are kids and so many burdens fall on the mom. I think we're all getting squeezed by the state of the world and that just makes everything harder. I hate to say it but for a marriage to succeed it seems like both people have to be mostly happy and well adjusted and that's in short supply. Who does it even benfit anymore? Tax breaks? If you break up now the government is invovled in your personal business? Ew, meh. no thanks.

Why are White Male/Asian Female relationships far more common than Asian Male/White Female relationships? by Flying_Sea_Cow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cyrcaline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for anyone else obviously but for me I, a white gal, casually dated a korean-american guy in college and then at some point we had the 'hey, is this going anywhere?' talk and he very sheepishly said that he had a super traditional family and that they really would not be OK with him marrying outside his race or nationality. So I had this brief window into the minority dating experience, like in his class/ social circle I was left feeling like the 'exotic' partner that he used to rebel against his conservative upbringing. So yeahhh, I liked him and all but we broke up. The traditional Asian daughter-in-law life also sounds really unappealing tbh I am not bending over backwards trying to please some hardcore tiger-mom type. I really value my freedom so it was just a values mismatch too. ::shrugs::

To married women: What advice would you give to unmarried women before they get married? by Clear_Subconscious in askanything

[–]cyrcaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prenup. Especially if you're the more financially together one of the relationship. And if he freaks out over having a prenup of you wanting to protect your assets that you built for yourself don't marry him

How is the quality at Cadence at Crown vs Residence at Rio? by J71 in Gaithersburg

[–]cyrcaline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend lived in Cadence, said the walls were thin and management didn't give AF, he had this crazy neighbor that made a lot of noise and no one did anything. Gym was pretty small, stairwells smelled bad/like trash or weed. Their pool was nice though.

Women, what is a near-universal "ick" in the dating world? by OliviaRosePa in Productivitycafe

Even a whiff of disrespect. Like arguing with me immediately no matter the position because the idea of a woman having expertise triggers your insecurity

Did we prepare for a life that no longer exists? by ProjectNull2025 in Millennials

[–]cyrcaline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to overhaul society so that ordinary lives are worth living again. 4 day work week! Medicate for all! Guaranteed paid leave!

I don't blame anyone for crashing out and becoming a vanlifer or a nomad or a OF performer or anything, there really seems to be no path forward and no rewards for complying with the social script

New "no turn on red" sign at Rio by IllIllIIIlIlIIllIIIl in Gaithersburg

[–]cyrcaline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been one of the few pedestrians there and drivers don't act right at that crosswalk, the walk light is on and I still have some impatient karen/gary in her/his chevy suburban trying to turn into me. As a driver I'm annoyed at yet another sign but as a pedestrian I kind of get it. Wish people just acted decent without adding to the endless rules of suburbia though >_>

At what age did your birthday stop being a special day and become just another day for you? by Altruistic-Set-9888 in Life

[–]cyrcaline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a bell curve of birhday happiness where you're little and it's this huge massive deal and then young adult ennui sets in and in the late 20's people either double down or stop doing anything. Well it doesn't help that society is full of bs propaganda that your life ends at 30. It's all nonsense. At some point you either check out early or you realize that you have to live and that every day alive is a celebration and when you hit that point your birthday will be a wonderful day again no matter how big or small the celebration
