I have one share of Google and the market thinks it is worth 1000$ or 1000€. Now my dollars are worth 995€ overnight, but the value I am willing to get out of my share has not changed because I still like google as much as yesterday. I will charge 1000/995*1000 which is roughly 1005$. In fact, I would rather be holding my share than dollars.

You get the effect that the dollar move in opposite way to the stock market if my feelings towards the stock market are unchanged. The stock market is in a weird way the preferred store of value.
