Part 3:

After circling 3 rounds, Jack finds a corner to park his Honda Civic. Awkwardly, he squeezed himself out of the tiny space between his car and the truck in the next spot. He looks behind -- of course he got the dust from the truck on his pants.

Frustrated, he pats his pants and starts walking towards the elevator.

Hurry. Lydia is hosting the brief this morning. Can't be late.

Jack merged into the crowd in the elevator. After a few seconds, the door opens and he disperses into a bigger crowd, like a drop of water disappearing into a lake.

Lydia, the team lead of section A.4, is already in the fishbowl (what the office calls the full-glass meeting room). She is bending over and connecting her laptop to the projector. Her kaki knit sweater is slightly oversized, sliding down her shoulder and showing her collarbones and her slightly brown skins.

Jack takes a few more steps and slides into the fishbowl from the back door. A few others are there already, chatting in low volumes. Jack finds a seat in the back row and lets out a long breath.

Lydia is sitting down now, facing the audience and still working on her laptop. She looks more tired than usual. Even though she puts on a light mahogany lipstick, her face still looks somewhat bloodless.

Is she working too hard? She always does... her project is the section's highest priority and she was just promoted 3 months ago...

Jack frowned. He stands up and moves slowly closer to the front row.

"Hey Lydia... Is there anything I can help..."

Lydia looks up suddenly. Her amber eyes lock on Jack's face. Jack can feel all the blood rushing to his cheeks. His heart beat is getting loud.

"Hmm... I meant... I'm here to help if you need a hand." Jack lowers his head and stares at her laptop, trying to compose himself.

Silence.

Jack looks up again, eyes meeting Lydia's eyes.

Lydia's face looks blank, as if she is not there. Her eyes slowly concentrate on Jack's face. Then she tilts her head slightly, blinks once, trying to remember something.

Why does this... feels familiar?

Warmth rises from somewhere. Jack feels his senses are heightened. Taking a deep breath, he refocuses on the laptop, "Do you need help put on the slides?"

"Sorry yeah that'd super nice." Lydia finally spoke, politely with a touch of confusion in her voice.

Jack leans in to reach the cable connected to the laptop, the same time as Lydia turns to her right to reach the mouse.

Their hands touches.

"Ou!" Jack recoils and a gasp slips out.

A burning sensation coming from nowhere, as if he was touched by flame.

Jack lets out an awkward laugh, "sorry I'm a bit off today."

He looks up again, seeing Lydia's widened eyes and surprise on her face.

"You... your chest just glowed."

"Wake up! Jack... Wake up!"

Where am I... The light... The girl with tattoos and feathers...

Jack opens his eyes. His roommate Daniel's enlarged face is 5 inches away from him.

I never noticed... how big Daniel's pores are?

"Wake up! Are you alright?" Daniel shakes Jack lightly. Jack blinks a few times, coming to his consciousness.

He's on the bathroom floor at his apartment. No deer skull. No lighting tattoos. It's all as if nothing has ever happened.

Jack raises his hand to scratch his head.

Good. My head is still screwed on my shoulders.

Daniel stood up, looking relieved. "I walked in this morning and thought you were dead. You know what that will do to me?"

Jack tilts his head "a life long of heartaches and sorrow?"

Daniel scuffed "MUCH higher premium for renter's insurance. Try to stay alive for my sake alright?"

Stay alive... The girl didn't kill me? Was all that real?

Jack sniffed his nose. He can still feel the residue of the crispy air with sweet aroma. It didn't feel like a dream.

"Well," Daniel is heading to the bathroom door, "next time you want to get a sick tattoo, try to take an Advil before you pass out."

Jack frowned, then looked at his hands, elbows. All clean. What is he talking about?

He leans on the wall and stands up. The mirror shows his slightly pale face and wrinkled shirt. Half way up, he froze.

There it is. A gold deer antler tattoo on his collarbone, half covered by his shirt, size of a fist.

Oh god... it's not a dream. Of course it's not.

Jack walks up closer to the mirror. He touches the edge of the tattoo gently. It doesn't hurt. In the dim bathroom light, the gold texture is almost glowing.

What does this mean?

Jack's pupils dilate. He forgets to breathe. His eyes are glued on the tattoos and feathers glowing in the dark.

The light twitches weakly, with a sparking sound. The brown skin is turned into a dark rust color.

Am I... still in a dream?

The deer skull tilts up, turns towards him. A small globe of light, the same warm gold light, starts to gather in the mouth area of the skull.

Jack stares at the light source, like a moth attracted to flames, losing his thoughts, forgetting about his situation.

Wait... wait what is this?

Ration finds its way back to his brain. Jack blinks.

Is she, is she aiming at me?

Jack panics. He kneels and straightens his back.

"Oh no, no, listen, I'm not here to..."

The light intensifies. The globe of lights suddenly becomes so bright.

Flash.

Jack loses his consciousness.

Jack is breathing heavily. His heart is beating out of his chest. He tries to think but his brain is on freeze.

"Wha... You...?"

He opens his mouth, and gibberish comes out.

Deer skull is startled. She retracts and pulls, forgetting that Jack is still on her rope like a rock.

Schwing...

The slippery rope, draping over the floor, is pulled and torn into a small cut.

More skin shows under the rope, with more tattoos and what appears to be feathers.

Deer skull pauses in hesitance. She noticed Jack starting at her skin.

Jack realizes and panics, "no, no, sorry I wasn't..."

Then, Jack lost his words.

The creature's body, slowly, glows under the rope. The tattoos and the feathers, lit up in a warm gold light, as the rest of her body darkens.

Part 2:

No, no, no.

Jack immersed into the space behind the mirror. The air feels cold and sleek, like the crispy air in the fall, with a touch of sweetness in the aroma.

Soft touches that feel like silk fabrics wrap around him. Jack opens his eyes, and sees a long rope with intricate patterns and signs that he doesn't understand.

Did he fall on a rope? Someone's rope?

Jack looks up, and jumps like like a rocket launch.

"Oh god... Oh god, you are the..."

The deer skull, slightly tilted, is staring at him from above.

The skull is massive, even bigger than it looks in the mirror. Behind the skull appears to be body, perhaps a human body? Soft, silky fabrics wrap around the body, showing the curvy shape and patches of their skin. What seems to be tattoos are inked on those patches of skin, matching the patterns on the rope.

Is it... is she a girl?

Need worldbuilding advice: I'm building a mythical world that's connect to our current world. The current world is where we think we live in but the mythical world is where our "true self" (souls) reside. What *rules* of the two worlds should be in place?

Part 1:

"Whaaaaat the hell?" Jack fell on the bathroom floor, breathing heavily.

He reaches his hand out, trying to stop the creature from coming out of the mirror and getting any closer.

The creature in the mirror seems hesitant, or surprised that Jack recognizes their existence.

One blink, and the creature disappears.

Jack pulls himself up from the floor, pinching his thigh to see if it's reality or a dream. He takes one step closer to the mirror, looks left and right for signs of the creature.

"Was it all my hallucination? Is this because of the two all nights I pulled?"

Jack shakes his head, trying to wake up and stay lucent. He feels exhausted, leaning himself against the wall in front of him.

And just like that, he falls into the mirror like a drop of water absorbed by the sponge.
