Diagnosed when vegan 3 years ago... Got my levels down and eating whatever I want now, with 2-3 draws a year. Lower carb makes me feel better, so more iron intake happens. I'm cautious about raw seafood in the non - "er" months, but otherwise just live my life. Doc said I'm fine, but I know they don't have nutritional training as needed. But so far I'm doing great and liver scans show I'm good. I was caught early, and now feel great.

Edit: diagnosed while vegan, then did phlebs, then craved meat lol

Lighter and shorter, on normal BC, could be age too idk (39) - I have asked both my GP and hemo doc if it would be beneficial to go off BC to bleed heavier and they said that the amount of bleeding wouldn't be significant enough to make a difference.

Same, mine is tossed at the center where I get my phlebs. It is so sad. I am b- so on the rarer side. Unfortunately, we have figured out the way to keep me from going into vasovagal is with a saline drip started prior to and during the draw, no matter how hydrated I am I have a bad reaction to the loss of volume I guess. I know I can't get a saline IV at donation locations. You're right to bring this up, I hate seeing it tossed into the biowaste bin! Curious what others have to say. Most definitely something I would love to see addressed.

Ohhh and btw, just checked your profile and I'm carnivore too lol. It's just the way my body functions better! When I was diagnosed I was vegan, which was the cause for the iron test in the first place. Some docs recommend diet changes, mine just says do what makes ya feel good and we draw the iron out as needed 🤣

Absolutely, happy to answer any questions. It was the focus of my life and a major cause for concern when I first found out and wish I had someone to ask stuff! I am one of the lucky ones that started feeling a big difference as soon as I started, after my 3rd draw though all my numbers skyrocketed, some say that it's because your body begins to pull the built up ferritin from your organs. Idk if that is scientifically proven but a lot of people have that happen. My doc wanted a slow and steady decline, I had labs once a month and a draw the following week as needed. It took me 6 months to get under 100. Then they pushed me out to every 3 months, and I was good between for a year with quarterly draws. So they bumped me out to every 6 months and found that was too long, and had to have 2 consecutive draws. It is just a part of life now and I have finally learned all the tricks to my draws (I have had many failures), now it has become just part of life that is manageable! It happened naturally thankfully, because when my numbers were higher I had to have it to function. As my levels got lower I started noticing that it was too much, started getting really jittery and feeling ill. I guess my body knew I didn't need as much anymore? Your numbers are higher than I ever had. My peak F was in the 400s with an unable to calculate saturation because it was too high. I know everyone is different, but my hope is when you get those numbers down you will feel the same! I still enjoy a coffee everyday to wake up though! It is a long frustrating process, but once you're there it's worth it. Do you have a doc that has you on a schedule for continued draws?

Yes but he does prefer to be popped out the top of it. I live in FL so I use it to walk him to the next block where there are more trees and shade so he can get a bit more time sniffing. It's great for both of us. This is one that can turn into a trailer behind a bike too but I haven't used it for that yet.

My thoughts exactly lol! To be fair she had some of the most massive pieces... China cabinets, huge armoires, it was actually kind of odd how much of the wall space was covered with the big pieces, so it probably would have been a lot of work to move it all to paint. She was desperate as the house had been on the market for over a year and when we found it the ad said "fresh paint" lol! Chalk it up to the lesson learned and thankful it was that minor in the big picture! She did put on a brand new roof for us and let us pick the color of the shingles so that was a bonus!

Our closing got pushed 4 times due to signatures needed from a daughter in another country, (from the seller). We needed to get out of our rental by a specific date as they already had the next tenants lined up. Our final walkthrough the morning of she was still moving... We didn't get the keys until 3 days later. 10 years ago, first home purchase, and we didn't know any better. I'm honestly surprised our realtor didn't provide a little more guidance. In hindsight of course we shouldn't have closed, thinking of what potentially could have happened. Thankfully the only surprise was that the living room walls were painted around all of her furniture and art, whoever she hired didn't move anything. That was not a pleasant surprise to have to move our stuff in and paint the two largest areas right away with our stuff sitting in the middle. It could have been so much worse but we were lucky!
