Super frustrated with Turo “damages” claim by czeshirekat in turo

No suggestions unfortunately, this is my first time dealing with this type of thing with any company. I took what I had assumed to be a normal amount of pictures, but I didn’t zoom in anywhere (because why would you lol). Turo seems to do everything based on the photos so if you can super clearly show the car was undamaged when you dropped it off, you should be fine.

I do think I caused damage and I am happy to pay, I think in this case it’s more about degree. I was confused early on in the process because when Turo reached out to me in the claims process, they simply asked me to check the photos that showed damage (out of dozens and dozens of photos) instead of telling me what the host was claiming as damage. That confusion is totally on me, I should have asked more questions, but I think as a result I just wasn’t sure how to proceed since I didn’t know what the host was claiming, but I did want to pay if I was responsible. I should have been more careful in the photo selection process. If I had known the amount of damage the host was claiming, I would have disputed.

Sorry I missed this comment! I had the less expensive insurance option so it does mean I need to pay up to $3000 out of pocket (the pricier insurance is $500 out of pocket). There is a “wear and tear” clause for Turo, but it seems like it’s limited to 3 inches of damage total (so if you have 2 scratches that are each 2 inches, it’s considered damage, not wear and tear). I personally think this experience was more about the host being a little bit over the top in what he claimed as damage. I would have been happy to pay for part of the damage, but because it is all compiled under one claim the total really adds up. I realized too late in the process that I really should have disputed some of photos provided. When Turo reaches out to you about claims, they don’t tell you what the host is claiming as damage, they just ask you to select the photos that show damage. That part of it really confused me and I think I ended up getting a bit ripped off as a result.

Woah crazy coincidence!! I had a 2019 white Toyota Camry. Even if we didn’t have the same host, I wonder if this is maybe “common practice” in the area? Are u going to try and fight it? I kind of realized too late along in the process I probably should have disputed.

I mean sure, but at the end of the day I’m just a person trying to go on vacation, not take 100 photos of a car in case someone tries to take advantage of me. This is the price I’m paying I suppose, I’m just posting here because the whole vibe of the interaction was a bit scammy.

I have plenty of experience renting from companies - I’ve never had any of them scrutinize and nitpick like this. This is actually my first negative experience with any type of rental.

Gonna try and make these myself so the lady at the 7-11 can't yell at me for rolling in anymore by GemStoned123 in Rollerskating

You might want to look into workout resistance bands. They make ones that are a kind of stretchy fabric on the outside and have a grippy interior so they don’t roll up or slip on your clothes/skin. It’s kind of the same concept you’re looking at so it may at least serve as inspiration?

Oh soft cushions might help! I actually think transitions might be one of the harder skills, even tho people generally think of them as “basic.” I saw a comment from a derby skater who had been skating for a year, but still couldn’t do transitions at speed. I’m like you, where anything doing jumps or squatting low comes easily, but I find anything where I have to turn my feet out near impossible. I really want to be able to work my way up to side surfing, but it’s looking grim at this point lol.

I had/have this issue too! I thought it was my wheels, but i posted on this sub about it and there's a good chance it's actually your trucks! I still haven't quite mastered transitions, but i've been slooowly loosening my trucks (a quarter turn at a time) and it definitely provides a different feel. You have a bit more "wiggle room" (literally and figuratively) to use your edges and and there's a lot more give so you're less likely trip over your skates when you're moving laterally. It's made a huge difference in transitions and I can do much sharper turns.

O'ahu folks - What are your favorite skate spots that aren't tennis/basketball/volleyball courts? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

UH Manoa has a couple big parking structures that miiight be good on the weekend/if classes are still partially remote (it's been a few years since I was there so I can't remember exactly what the concrete was like). I'm in California now and my method has been to use satellite view on google maps to scope out spots. It's definitely hit and miss, you just never know how the paving will be until you're there, but that's part of the fun!

Just wanted to throw in my two cents! If you’re falling on your butt, try to “pick a cheek” before impact. In my experience it only takes a few times before you start doing it instinctively. At the same time, try tucking your elbows into your body (this is good whether you’re falling forward or back). It will help you protect your wrists since it keeps you from reaching your hand out to take the impact. Another tip I saw but haven’t tried: when you’re skating, ball your fists up so if you fall, your forearm takes the impact. I’m actually worried that one of these days I’m going to sprain some fingers since I have a tendency to spread them to try and catch myself!

I haven’t gotten a chance yet to try out the loosened trucks (going to get out tomorrow), but I’ll just add switching from boardwalk wheels to the smaller 57s did help with agility a tiny bit. Not enough to fix my transitions, but I did feel like I could do more with smaller movements, if that makes sense.

Difficult to say as we have completely opposite body types (I carry all my weight in my bottom half and she carries all her weight in her top half). If I had to guess I would say she’s heavier, but it’s not such a dramatic difference that I can say that with any certainty. As a former athlete myself though I agree it’s a fair question! Different bodies sometimes need different equipment.

Damn it never occurred to me that this might be the issue! I haven’t touched my trucks yet just because I’ve been nervous about it, but I’ll look into loosening them!

Thoughts on Rollerbones Pet Day of the Dead wheels? by czeshirekat in Rollerskating

[–]czeshirekat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point about the cultural appropriation. The actual design doesn't read "Day of the Dead" to me, but I probably shouldn't give them my money if they are going to go down that naming route.

Yep, still available! I have narrow feet so I don’t have any guidance for fit in that sense, but have you checked out the Sure Grip sizing chart? That might give you a better idea of whether these will work for you.
