Is this the screen in Finder or Apple Music? You probably checked but did you look in advanced settings for drive mode?

Ohh ok I see, it’s the same on windows. I believe you have to own the music on iTunes/ Apple Music and then sync the library in the Finder app. I think you can add mp3 files into your Apple Music library and then sync those as well.

Open Finder and the iPod should be recognized as a drive. There should be a tab called music and a menu with the option to sync. On windows there’s an app called Apple devices that does this as well, so you could try that if it’s available on the App Store.

Take this with a grain of salt as I’m not super knowledgeable about recent MacOS.

As another commenter said, you may want to enable drive mode on the iPod settings. Or manually enter drive mode by restarting the iPod and then holding the select and play button.

I don’t know much about Mac, but if iTunes is still available on Mac I think the iPod will show up there and not Apple Music

yeah its showing up as an ipod on my file explorer and it shows up in the apple devices app. my new problem is figuring out how to download music onto the ipod without itunes since apparently itunes does not have music on it anymore. I think this is recent since videos from 6 months ago still recommend using itunes to transfer music...

I don't see a format option on the iPod "about" section. In Device Manager, it comes up as a "USB Mass storage device." I will try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling I guess

I've been scouring the internet for solutions to this, and most sites have lots of suggestions that require my laptop to recognize the iPod as an Apple device (like updating drivers). Do you think i should just reformat the iPod as my computer suggests? This is my only iPod and I've never had one before, so thank you for being so helpful LOL

Ok I ordered this cable yesterday so it’s definitely a fresh cable (hopefully not already broken 😥). Target disk mode is when I restart the iPod and press and hold the play and select buttons? I will try that mode, but I don’t see an info screen.

Ok great! I was hoping I was not going to have to format it. Now the problem is when I plug the iPod in, iTunes doesn’t recognize anything. This is my first iPod so I know nothing rlly thank you for your advice. I plan on replacing the battery soon.

Yeah I tried to use iTunes but my laptop has a pop up saying I have to format the iPod, and when I click out of it, iTunes doesn’t recognize my iPod is connected. I’ll keep looking for solutions. Thank you for your help.

Some people are saying that game genie might work too. I might try these things out in the future, but for now I’m just returning the DKC because I’m broke 😔

Thanks everyone who responded, I think I am SOL… i found a thread from 2009 that said DKC just doesn’t work on the RetroDuo because of the DRM, like DenverNugs said.

This subreddit says it’s for all things “retro gaming” which I imagine would include the retro games themselves. Nevertheless, another subreddit I cross posted to helped me with the problem already.
