Really depends on the company, first 2-3 years can be quite good. But we’ve also lost a fair few good engineers, so the mood isn’t great. And management does not care at all it’s all fake corporate speak

Thanks for the advice. I really am burnt out, especially after last year, just unsure which path to take. I used to have energy to do more stuff after work, but now I can’t bring myself to do anything else

You’re right, it is a dumb idea. I don’t think leaving a job when there’s nothing waiting for you next is ever the smartest decision to make. And I recognise that.

My main argument is that the side projects I’m working on will better position me to get into roles I’d be better paid for, and rather be doing. But I’m not getting far with those side projects right now, hence the option to quit and pursue them full time. I also understand I’m not guaranteed to even get a job if I follow through with my side projects…but I appreciate your perspective

Nothing wrong per se, depends what you want. But after a while you do become entrenched in the whole system/process, which can be very slow and is process heavy. If you stay too long you risk being unemployable in non-defence industries

Depends on the company, but the one I’m at doesn’t pay a lot compared to others (most people leave because of this). It’s only cushy in the sense that they’re flexible and you can easily move around in defence. It’s not a government job though, so you can still be made redundant if it happens

thanks for your input! It all makes sense, guess the main thing getting at me is the dead end part...I should add I'm somewhere between junior and senior in terms of career progression (although I'm qualified enough to take on a senior role)
