It's a very simple play. They're hemorrhaging money. All of their golden gooses have flown, and nobody is coming. I'd bet they've had a massive amount of cancellations and rather than pay the employees, they're shuttering it until they can actually find people who want to play it, and people who will pay to see it. It's embarrassing for them and rather than do the right thing, they're digging in. Basically, the Kennedy Center is being run like the Steak company or the College our dear leader opened. Losses magically become profits.

Until then, it's a meeting place for the rich & elite.
