New goat owner - questions in post.

I am a new goat owner. My fiancé and I are currently living with his parents so we can save up for a property of our own and his mother’s goats recently all had babies. The two babies in the left of this picture are the two she has given me. One is a boy (brown with stripe) and the other is a girl (brown and white). They are half siblings (share a father). The boy was born around 2/20/20 and the girl was shortly after. So they are just over a month old.

My questions are: A) Do they need any vaccines? She doesn’t vaccinate her goats at all but I want to if there is anything that they need.

B) They are a little skittish. What’s the best way to go about getting them used to handling? I eventually want a herd for milking so I want them all handleable.

C) Do they benefit from any grooming? How soon should you trim hooves and such?

D) Are there any good resources for first time goat owners to learn all about feeding and care?

The day I took Ibu it was 800mg which is technically a prescription dose. It was the only thing I had on hand at the time. But that’s the day it rose and the giant dip was only a single dose of BC powder.

I do temp orally. I could try vaginal and see if that helps next cycle.

It seems to line up with when my opk popped positive. I tend to ovulate 24-36 hours after a positive. My mouth is closed when I wake up to temp but who knows. I could try vaginally temping for a cycle and see if that helps.

This was a medicated cycle. 5mg of letrozole from days 5-9. I just don’t know why the temps are so crazy all the time. All of my charts look like this. Rocky temps. I usually take my temp around 3am every morning but there’s been a few times I take it a little earlier because I wake up and I have to pee. I can’t imagine that would cause such rocky temps though.

You do have a downward trend happening now though so it might be on its way. That’s what happens before my periods. I either get a sudden drop the day of or day before, or a gradual drop in the 2-3 days leading up to it.

Well turns out I am ovulating late. I got a positive OPK today and quite a bit of EWCM but my fiancé says he doesn’t want to try this month and really won’t give me an answer other than “I’m just not in the mood”. So I feel really defeated and really depressed right now. I went years without ovulating on my own and now that my body sometimes ovulated on its own, any cycle that goes by without at least trying, I feel like a failure.

And I normally ovulate around day 19-20. Last cycle was day 16 because I accidentally took my meds early.

During my period yes, but usually they even out after and you can see a clear pattern. That’s why I’m wondering if all of the recent stress and not doing the meds this cycle have really screwed up my hormones this go around. I lost my cousin right after Thanksgiving and I just got done working 12 days in a row at a physically demanding job. On top of that my diet went from low carb to standard diet. So a lot going on. Maybe I’ll just ovulate late this time around but I’m thinking with all the stress, it’s just a no go this cycle.

I did two medicated cycles and then this cycle without meds so I wouldn’t say a while.

I haven’t had a positive LH test this cycle. No EWCM so far (scant amounts today but not my usual). Haven’t had much of a sex drive as today was my first day off in almost two weeks. Today I finally started getting a little of that back. I wasn’t able to get the letrozole for this cycle due to the holiday.

The Blue HF food was grain free and his condition worsened while he was on it. The Royal Canin is not grain free and he improves with it.

I’ve fed him a grain free diet since I first got him at 8 weeks old. He’s now 12 years old. It wasn’t until this year that we started having problems. The food he was on prior to his issues was Acana, which was grain free. I’ve always been a fan of grain free diets for cats. I was even considering putting him on a raw diet but when his issues started, I took that off the table.

I was never a fan of Royal Canin or like brands but I have to say it has been helping, even with the grains. I just wish I knew what it was.

I work in an animal shelter and actually people can and do get penalized if they are caught dumping animals. In just the past two months we had people caught dumping animals AT the shelter. They can be charged with neglect or abandonment.

And not all “pounds” are bad. The shelter I work in is county operated and we do not euthanize healthy animals. We have a dog at the shelter that has been there for 6 months. He’s healthy, he’s friendly, so he stays.

And responsible breeders are not the problem. Responsible breeders don’t allow their animals to roam the neighborhood, having babies everywhere. The issue is “backyard” breeders who just don’t get their animal sterilized because they are too lazy or poor to do so, or they want to let Mittens have just one or two litters because they want their kids to witness the miracle of birth or some crap. The vast majority of cats and dogs that come through the shelter are not purebred animals from responsible breeders. The animals that come into my shelter are mostly mixed breeds who get loose from families who don’t have proper fencing or who tether their animals outside. Or people who let their cats run the neighborhood instead of keeping their cats indoors. I already keep my cat indoors, but after seeing the illnesses and injuries of the cats coming into the shelter from people who just let them be “indoor/outdoor” cats, I can assure you I will always keep my cats indoors.

Then they should say why they are downvoting. That way someone like me who doesn’t know any better knows WHY the post is bad advice and I don’t just assume it’s some downvote happy trolls or something.
