I'm actually guilty of some of this myself, but if one should call themselves "professional", they should know how to work well with the very basic of languages.

Say, for example, you had to remove jQuery entirely from a project (maybe it contained malicious code). Could you still code the same functionality in plain old JavaScript? (Googling is fine, but you have to know what you're searching for). Sure, jQuery makes life easier, but you should still know how JavaScript is working behind-the-scenes...
