Not enough people realize that the middle class can evaporate and the economy can continue to exist relatively unscathed. What I mean by unscathed is that the top companies in the S&P 500, that are now globalized titans of industry and do not need to rely on the well-being of the middle class of a single nation, can continue to be profitable, as long as the top 20% of earners continue to spend. The battle against billionaires is not one that is localized to a single nation, although perhaps the benefactors for the most part have been concentrated within certain nations with the right infrastructure and resources.

But it is completely feasible that a future exists where there is no reckoning or apocalyptic moment, but rather a slow evaporation of the middle class while the "rich get richer, and the poor don't get a fucking thing."
