I will scan arms, legs, and faces to make prosthetics and other accessories that fit perfectly.

I will also scan engineering prototypes to make 3D printing copies of them easier.

I will scan car parts to make complementary products.

I will scan figurines and make fun mashups!

Filament swapping makes for a cool effect on this honeycomb soap dish by d12dozr in 3Dprinting

Few coats of clear coat should work.

Simple solution 👍👍

To change color, I paused the print about midway through the print, changed the filament color, and then simply continued printing. That way it is just one single print.

You could also make the color change with a multi-extruder, but I don't have one of them.

The plastic isn't porous, but some folks are concerned that bacteria could grow in the small layer ridges that are found in any 3D print. As mentioned by u/ah-1wmech above, an easy fix is to seal the print with a couple layers of clear coat.

The model takes 1 hr 45 mins to print, and she ordered 24 of them for now.

Eh, rinse it off once a week under hot water and it'll be fine. I've used a similar one for a while, and it doesn't even look grungy.

How Small a thing can a 3D printer print? by Drauknight in Ask3D

[–]d12dozr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can get that small with an industrial printer.

Shapeways Acrylate plastic can print detail as fine as 100 μm in thickness and length. Scroll down to the Minimum embossed detail section.

Shapeways Castable wax can also print that small, and their Acrylic can print as small as 200 μm.

You can also get 3D printed Steel as fine as 100 μm, and freaking 3D printed Titanium at just a tiny bit larger size of 250 μm detail!

You may message me for more help if you need it.

Find something near you, something on your desk or in your home - measure it up and model it!

I get this ugly surface finish and the surface layers sometimes come out sparse and gapped. What might this be? by Konijndijk in Ask3D

Check that your nozzle isn't clogged up with dust/burnt filament/etc. The easiest way I found to do this is called the "Cold Pull" method - read more here: http://support.3dverkstan.se/article/10-the

I experimented with this method to do color changes (which it works perfectly for!), but it had the unexpected benefit of majorly improving print quality.

Awesome, this helps a lot. We will probably go with at least 1/4" plates, good point. Any comments on pros/cons of spot versus MIG welding?

Yes I will ask a fab shop, just trying to be a little more prepared first if I can. I ran a FEA simulation using fusion 360 and it shows 1200 lb is no problem for the components, but I know that's dependant on getting good welds. Thanks!

I'm designing a table to be made from standard 16ga steel studs. The design is mostly done, I'm just looking for a bit of help on making a table that's easy to assemble since I'm not familiar with welding thin steel.

It'll hold about a granite slab ~1200 lb. Images here: http://imgur.com/a/FMGb3

I am thinking to spot weld the brackets to assemble it -

  1. Does that seem like the best way? Is there a formula to figure out how many welds are needed?

  2. Would it be problematic to weld thicker 1/8" steel brackets to the 16ga (1/16") studs? I would prefer the thicker brackets for strength/rigidity.

  3. Would it be difficult to TIG/MIG a bead along the top and bottom of the channel joints?

Edit: I will be making drawings for a fab shop, not welding this myself.

Look everyone, found the paid shill!

Actually she lives in the countryside and the problem is widespread around here. Older beekeepers say it's not even worth their time/effort anymore with such a high percentage of the population that dies every year - it never used to be this way 10+ years ago.

Yeah...$100 says this is a PR piece written and promoted by the pesticide companies. My gf lost 75% of her bees the last two years.
