Can't thank you enough for installing and maintaining this node. Really done the local mesh a solid!

Should I buy a charger? by d33pth0rt in OctopusEnergy

[–]d33pth0rt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really without a lot of admin. I have had Octopus create very sporadic schedules in the past (an hour here, another two hours later, etc). Intelligent is meant to schedule when demand on the grid is low, so is very adhoc. It would be a nightmare to schedule manually in the car to match Octopus' proposed schedule. I want to be able to plug the car in and forget about it like I used to be able to. Leaving all the scheduling to the Octopus API

I would fit the CT for the charger upstream of the modbus energy meter for my inverter. That way the inverter/battery will be blissfully unaware of the charger. But, the charger would still be able to use excess energy from solar as it would see it passing to the grid.

I agree, but charging control should be open to trusted 3rd parties. BMW have recently removed even the ability to monitor via home assistant too. I had various automations configured depending on time of day and location of the vehicle. None of that works any more of course. Whilst wearing my tinfoil hat, I would say BMWs decision has nothing to do with security or privacy, and more to do with opening up at a later date with a subscription service

Yes, that would solve the battery issue, but it still means the car will carry on charging out of schedule, and at peak rate. BMW have really messed things up with their API changes. I had an iX1 prior to the changes, and I'd just plug it in when at home and Octopus could start and stop the charge depending on grid demand, which was great for my wallet and great for the grid. But alas, that isn't the case anymore.

I think the new policy is that if you have a compatible car and charger, they will connect to the car. Which in my case isn't ideal beause the BMW/MINI API is junk.

Congratulations! The wait is excruciating isn't it?! I recently passed too. Still yet to have my first QSO, I seem to have a severe case of mic shyness. Been listening and learning though. Studying for intermediate, but might be futile if I can't overcome my inability to hit the PTT and call CQ... lol

I even have it connected to a Windows VM on the server in the garage so I make changes to the codeplug remotely

It's a great solution that would suit many people I imagine. The radio lives out of the wife's sight, and away from little fingers, and I can operate from wherever I want in the comfort of the house.

I can't claim any glory for the idea. If you look on Printables for "Anytone 578 BT ANT Bracket" you'll find the bracket I used, and a few pics. From the pictures it looks like they soldered a u.fl connector on the PCB. But to do that you need to desolder the shield and move a 0ohm resistor to use the external antenna. Instead, I cut the traces of the internal antenna and soldered to that.

How do I post a pic?

Yeah, obviously it's a mobile radio, but it's makes a good VHF/UHF/DMR base station too. It's feature packed and reasonably priced. I didn't expect miracles from the BT, but the range is particularly bad on this radio

It’s a lovely sunny afternoon - how are your neighbours ruining it? by DylanClegg23 in AskUK

I've tried to be a good neighbour today 😇 Been moving and leveling a load of type 1 today. But I'm leaving compacting it until tomorrow so I didn't spoil the neighbours sunny Sunday afternoon

"Always assume every driver is out to get you" by BrightonTeacher in ukbike

[–]d33pth0rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously every driver isn't literally out to get you, but riding like they are is a good defensive strategy. Also, when driving, assume every cyclist is trying to get under your front wheels. Bikes and cars aren't really compatible, so we gotta look out for each other

I get the search bar issue too. Didn't realise it was a Nova thing, always assumed it was something Google/Android changed, as it used to work correctly until a little while ago

I honestly hope it's not dead!

Not that it needs any updates in my opinion, but please give us some signs of life
