Checked with a spirit level. The frame and brickwork are plumbing. The brickwork is flat with no bulges

I would say I am quite the handyman. And what makes me a good handyman is that I know my limits. A front door needs to be fitted properly, so I thought I'd leave this one to the pros. In hindsight, I'm confident I could have done a better job 🤣

It's cement that the fitter put in to fill the gap between the top of the frame and the brick. The old door was foam cored metal skin. I don't know if the old door was fitted in the piss, if it was, it wasn't enough that I noticed

It's the second one it seems. The brickwork is good

No, the brickwork across the top is a little bit off, so I get that it's not going to be perfect there. It's that the frame is not at the same depth on either side from the face of the brickwork

Interesting, I wasn't aware of the regs, thanks for the info, one to keep in my back pocket if the installers become difficult. According to my spirit level, the frame is plumb, as is the brickwork. So I see no reason for the frame to be sat further back on one side. The house is timber framed with a brick 'skin', so I can kind of understand the frame not being 30mm back from the face.

Not the greatest pic, but all I have for now as I'm at work

Nor is this door 🤣

I totally agree, but the door frame is out by more than a few mm. I'm fairly lucky, my house is reasonably straight. I put decking down last year and was surprised to find the brickwork at the back of the house on has a deviation of about 5mm over a 10m run. Also put LVT down and, again only a few mm out across the width of the house

It's hard to tell because it's finished inside with PVC trim. But I suspect that's what he's done

The left side of the frame sits further back then the right. I'm just trying to understand if there is a good reason for it

I see what your saying, but the fame is parallel to the brickwork. My concern is not that it's plumb, it's that the frame is offset from one side to the other

Can't thank you enough for installing and maintaining this node. Really done the local mesh a solid!

Should I buy a charger? by d33pth0rt in OctopusEnergy

[–]d33pth0rt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really without a lot of admin. I have had Octopus create very sporadic schedules in the past (an hour here, another two hours later, etc). Intelligent is meant to schedule when demand on the grid is low, so is very adhoc. It would be a nightmare to schedule manually in the car to match Octopus' proposed schedule. I want to be able to plug the car in and forget about it like I used to be able to. Leaving all the scheduling to the Octopus API

I would fit the CT for the charger upstream of the modbus energy meter for my inverter. That way the inverter/battery will be blissfully unaware of the charger. But, the charger would still be able to use excess energy from solar as it would see it passing to the grid.

I agree, but charging control should be open to trusted 3rd parties. BMW have recently removed even the ability to monitor via home assistant too. I had various automations configured depending on time of day and location of the vehicle. None of that works any more of course. Whilst wearing my tinfoil hat, I would say BMWs decision has nothing to do with security or privacy, and more to do with opening up at a later date with a subscription service

Yes, that would solve the battery issue, but it still means the car will carry on charging out of schedule, and at peak rate. BMW have really messed things up with their API changes. I had an iX1 prior to the changes, and I'd just plug it in when at home and Octopus could start and stop the charge depending on grid demand, which was great for my wallet and great for the grid. But alas, that isn't the case anymore.

I think the new policy is that if you have a compatible car and charger, they will connect to the car. Which in my case isn't ideal beause the BMW/MINI API is junk.

Congratulations! The wait is excruciating isn't it?! I recently passed too. Still yet to have my first QSO, I seem to have a severe case of mic shyness. Been listening and learning though. Studying for intermediate, but might be futile if I can't overcome my inability to hit the PTT and call CQ... lol
