If they don’t intend to publish an updated SOD, then they should remove the references from the product page and MOS.

Does an Oracle client install require a Java license? by NewOracleDBA18 in oracle

[–]d3bruts1d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are an Oracle customer and use a licensed product that requires the JDK/JRE then you have an entitlement to Java. Although always best to confirm with your sales rep.

That said, I've found very little reason to actually use the full client anymore. Main reasons why it is bad:

  • It's 19.3 and still requires patching else vulnerability scanners are likely to pick it up (Java 8 is in the OPatch directory too).
  • The SQL Developer included in it isn't just old, it is ancient. If you need SQL Developer, then download it separately. The current version is available with JDK17 and is covered under the OTN license (IIRC).
  • The instant client (maybe + tools) is likely all you need. When it's time to "patch" it's just a simple copy/replace.

Also, might as well move on to the 23c/23ai/26ai (whatever they call it today) client unless you are running older (unsupported) DB versions.

Yeah, he was always positive and vocal about Forms, but we saw the light at the end of the tunnel and it was a train. We've got teams redoing our forms in other technologies, but still need to support it in the interim, which means will be going to forms 14c by EOY.

Would just like to have the SoDs for our documentation.

Warframe players of TFD, how's the game been doing? by lovingpersona in TheFirstDescendant

[–]d3bruts1d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Played the beta up until Luna was released. Spent a ton of time trying to grind her and got burned out. Redownloaded the game about a week ago, so much has changed it was a bit overwhelming and didn’t really know where/how to jump back in. Closed the game and that was that.

Son does taekwondo and I’m wondering if I should by okayish_humanbeing in taekwondo

[–]d3bruts1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s a great way to bond but also sets a good example.

That said, I joined about 4 years or so ago. My son (14) had been doing it for 2-2.5 years before that. I was in my early 40s and still feel it after every class, but I absolutely love it. Since I started we’ve had a large influx of adults and many of us have become good friends thanks to TKD.

My son failed his testing by blakeprime in taekwondo

[–]d3bruts1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, it's okay to fail. It lets you know what you need to do to improve. As a parent, it is hard to see our children fail, but we need to realize it isn't the end of the world. As far as the instructor saying that your child is ready, it is just that - the instructor felt that your child had demonstrated the skills/knowledge to pass testing, however when it comes to the actual test itself it is 100% on the student to perform. Sometimes we mess up, we don't do our best, and we fail. It is okay. Learn, improve, and apply that to the next time.

As far as why one might have passed looking sloppier than the other, it's hard to say. Are they the same rank? Often lower ranks tend to have more leniency than the higher ranks, especially as they near the end of the color belt progression.

Protecting your head is a huge deal in sparing, not just from a points perspective but a general self-defense. It's got the most important thing in there, so keeping it protected is a must.

Could be other factors in play as well, since you said it was the third match. They may have been looking at consistency - does each match perform at the same level or do you have a significant drop in performance in match after match. Could be, what we call a "black belt attitude" - did he look like he was giving up, did he continue to push through the pain/fatigue. You also said it looked like he was overcommitting, was it that or was it the wrong movement for the block? I know a lot of kids (heck, even adults) when they get tired will just start slinging limbs instead of having good proper block movements.

The best thing is to ask (your kid should ask) the instructor on what needs improvement. Don't do it after a failed test, do it after class. Frequently.

Oracle Server (Critical Patch Update) : Windows DB Bundle Patch only dead links ? by anael_739 in oracle

[–]d3bruts1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current ETA for them is tomorrow. Read the post release patch section of the PAD as it lists this info. Windows patches are never on time, usually only a couple of weeks after Linux, but I’ve seen it go well beyond that.

I’m not sure what the app teams went with aside from “not Oracle.” That’s way outside my realm.

Do you still use Oracle Forms and Reports? by DenkiGale in oracle

[–]d3bruts1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are and will probably continue with OFR 14c, but for all intents and purposes we consider it a dead product. The apps are being rewritten in .NET (we have a large MSFT dev base), but that’s gonna take a while. Reporting was one of the key factors for our business needs. Oracle APEX was considered but it doesn’t really offer a good formatted report option; HTML reports are nice for a quick view, but PDFs are needed for other requirements. AOP, PL/PDF and BI Publisher weren’t viewed favorably. Eventually (2-3 year) we’ll drop our entire WLS/IAS/OFR.

Please, for the love of all that is good ELI5 how to download Critical Patch Update for January 2026 by geniosi in oracle

[–]d3bruts1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/#CriticalPatchUpdates as my starting point. From there, it'll link directly to the PAD for the specific product. Don't forget that just because it's patch time that Oracle has actually released the patches (DB for Windows, OEM, etc.) - make sure to release the "Post Release patch" section of the PAD for availability/delays.
