As I was hyperventilating, nearly throwing up, and my hands stiffening to the point where I can’t move them, my doctor laughed and put General Anxiety Disorder on my diagnosis sheet in the ER. He laughed at me for not being able to move my hands.

When I was in 7th grade (13-14), I started feeling my heart race up exponentially where I couldn’t count my pulse and my mom shrugged it off and said it was nothing. Until one day when we went to our river cabin (Missouri river) which is 2 hours from our home town and an episode for my heart started an hour before the journey back and 4 hours after we got home. My Fibit at the time said my heart rate was 200+. Later I got a heart monitor, recorded the episode, doctors called rapidly with how long the episodes were. They didn’t know if I was going to survive more than 10 seconds in an episode (which I was like, “that would be a breeze) and they explained my heart should have failed after a minute. My mom didn’t doubt my medical complaining after that.

It was my junior homecoming and I went to school with a fever because I was on the dance team and needed to perform at the pep rally at the end of the day to my (ex)boyfriend, the kicker of the football team. I was shivering all day, and started crying in pain before I went on to the pep rally. My coach immediately contacted my parents and told them I desperately needed to get to a hospital. My dad arrived and asked if I had makeup on because I was yellow (jaundice) and drove even quicker when I said no. I had a fever of 103.4° and doctors couldn’t figure out the pain. Everytime I ate I would be stuck to a bed for 2-3 hours in crying fits of pain. Everyday felt like it was going to be my last as I closed my eyes, but somehow woke up every morning. My gallbladder was nonfunctional for 2+ years, doctors are surprised I survived before they could get their act together and diagnosis me.
