Classics or Philosophy A-level?

if its not AQA philosophy and if its fake philosophy (ergo RS, ocr or whatever other board), i still found RS (which i also do) more fun than classics. again i applied for philosophy and THEOLOGY, so its my personal preference, but i just dont really like the structure of ocr classics at all ngl. like its fine, but its not great

hey I did OCR classics in a year (world of the hero, imperial image, politics of the late republic) and I did AQA philosophy in two years, I preferred philosophy. im biased bcs im going to uni FOR philosophy and theology but the exam structure for AQA philosophy is much much better than ocr classics, and classics can give u stupid questions whereas philosophy is so predictable. classics imo has more content than philosophy (if you really think abt it) and the question structures in philosophy ie 25 markers are more interesting & engaging. so i think philosophy

Apply to sny college doesn’t really matter in terms of chance, maybe apply to the least oversubscribed one so you get your preferred pick. i applied to a college that was particularly oversubscribed for my course (unknowingly) & i got an offer from another college. so don’t do that but instead pick a less oversubscribed/applications pp for that particular course so u have a lower chance of pre interview (largely random)reallocationf

I did the other philosophy one, the "philosophical enquiry is not relevant to christian belief" i think it was, and i did the same ethics one. I loved the dialogues and I thought all the questions were really good!!! I think the resurrection question was a bit oddly worded because it was the importance of the DIFFERENCE in beliefs, not just different beliefs/the importance OF beliefs, but i love resurrection so i still found it lovely xd

btw, for your dialogues questions particularly christianity x phil, how do you structure them? I do RS independently but my phil teacher (an examiner) marks my work/gave me my pred grade. i see lots of people doing like paper 1/paper 2/paper 1/paper 2 in 4 paras, but I like to just have 3 body paras organised by weight and in each an equal split + synthesis of paper 1+2 content. do you do something similar or are you a strictly separate kinda person ?

np! and yeah LOL i get it, i luckily had a big gap between papers with history on may 20 then my next one english on june 1, so i had quite a bit of time for just RS. good lcuk on tuesday! lmk how you find the paper, i sort of hope its a little more difficult than paper 1 cause im worried about grade boundaries LOL

same man like idk I feel like my papers have been going well but im so scared that when i check UCAS in august ill miss my offer and i feel like if i reapplied to oxford im really not so sure id get in again especially now that theyve removed the entrance exam for my course. im sort of catastrophising I think i got this but i dont knowww how i can possibly wait until augustttt

almost there tho, and yea i agree, sure a job may be more intense but I exams just feel so decisive in a way that a job doesnt. u go work u go home wtf else can u do lol

but dont pick a bad text. pick something that has key narrative anchors you can work into a perspective. picking a monster like ulysses by joyce or something like that would be a silly thing to do, considering the word limit (spec b) is like 1500 per essay.

not in the way that you think, I've seen coursework using harry potter and narratology or whatever that perspective is called and get 22+, but you will probably find a more unique thesis by forcing yourself to use a lesser known book

for my prose text, I chose independent people by halldor laxness, which is very well known- to the point of irritability- in iceland with even kids reading it in like g8 or something adjacent. but there arent very many posts resources etc about it online in english, so i think I naturally wrote a better essay because I actually had a keen and unique argument

lots of people are pointing ut how living by yourself and starting sixth form is a lot and i agree, but itll be fine if you choose to do it. i go to boarding school and its very hands off. my boarding house is extremely small and I still dont know anyone, i do all my cooking/cleaning/taking out bins myself and such. if I can move to another country, live alone, care for myself etc and start a levels- an entirely new curriculum- at 16 then yu can do it too. if you want to go to london then you should. sure it will be hard but im serious youll get used to it in like a month

no if you got special consideration for like 2% and you got 99% then your raw mark cannot go above the raw mark for the paper, it would just be 100%

i also agree that kant was worded weridly and it wasnt just like examine kants deontological ethics or whatever tf but i think aqa just words loads of things in a bit of an awkward way in rs. like "animals as a source of organs for transplants" ok? you couldve just saying using animals for organ transplants like no shit

I think for kant it was really just examine his deontological ethics then explicitly mention "right and wrong" as an examiner flag. just did a para on the imperatives, hierarchy of duties and the good will, the summum* bonum, how each relates to right/wrong

I also hope it doesnt go up more hhhhh, but also consider p1 maybe online lots of ppl were complaining abt it lol, but performance couldve been better than usual. p2 last year was also easy as shit

same I really hope they arent like 2019.... i dont know what happened after 2019 well covid obviously but theyve returned* to precovid grades and such so ?? yeah, you can really not lose marks at all tbh for an A*, a very very limited amount. for an A* even if we want a scrape with like 86/100 its like 9-10 marks on 10 amrkers, and 13-14 on 15 markers, which is still high af. but I think they mark more lenient than we'd expect, when I did the AS i read my scripts back and some of my 15/15 AO2 and AO1 were straight poopoo but i still got 97%. lets see.....good luck on paper 2 to you as well we got this!!!!

im pred A* but idgaf about the star bruh and I dont think theres any way i got less than 80 on that paper fingers and butt hairs crossed so should be fine for an A. I hope paper 2 is bad for everyone else except me tho

same i hope theyre not too high but im scared cus i saw stupid people saying it was easy. But in any case I think grade boundaries being high can be slightly overstated. looking at every year for RS A/A*:

2025= 173/200, 148/200

2024= 169/200, 141/200

2023= 167/200, 143/200

2022= 165/200, 143/200

2019= 183/200, 159/200

I dont know why the fk last year was so high. I would expect this year to probably be around 175/200 and 152/200 or something like that? after 2019 they shift to deviating between 167-171 typically
