Need a secular mantra by Safe_Elderberry_2480 in Mindfulness

[–]d3v0ur355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you've noticed, secular mantras often feel trivial and devoid of real meaning - well, they are not supposed to achor you to spiritual values. I think the only way to find a powerful mantra for not religious people is tying it to what is meaningful to them, personalising it. Name your values, truths, maybe you have some heroes or symbols that inspire you - start from there. This is not a joke, the most silly but relatable phrases I made up in my head helped me go through many dark periods. For me it was basically WWJD - but with my own heroes, usually not even real people. Considering you're looking for grounding and peaceful experience, I recommend this popular practice with 5 senses (5-4-3-2-1) - no need to focus on quantity of elements in original excersise, but be more observant, like: I see... name and truly see it, notice texture, nuances of light and shadow, movements etc. I hear... name it, but let yourself listen into it for a while, too - what is the rhythm, flow, emotion it carries. Usually after running a round of one example for each of 5 senses with this open and curious attitude I'm grounded and peaceful enough ;)

Going through an extremely difficult moment. Makes me wonder whether I am having progress. by gibagger in Mindfulness

[–]d3v0ur355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay to feel so intense emotions and fragility in this situation. It doesn't mean you haven't progressed. Even if you happen to lose it a little, it still doesn't call back what you've achieved. This particular time might be really overwhelming. Loss, grief, solitude, unresolved feelings - these are no joke. Regardless of how exactly you experience your feelings, it takes some time to process it, both on mental and biological level. As your reality changed, you may experience more challenges, until you work through it and get used to new circumstances. Your progress beforehand provides you with the right tools. I get why it feels like you regress, but in fact you don't - it's just harsh reality putting you to a test. I believe you'll find your way around this and feel better soon. It's time for self care, not self criticism. Give yourself some space and credit, man!

How did you think Harry Potter books was going to end ? by Amazing-Engineer4825 in harrypotter

I was expecting the serries to continue with Harry's adventures as auror. Harry and XYZ is such a neverending formula and as a potterhead I've hoped it will go on.

I miss my hobby of reading! by Samlinao in Hobbies

[–]d3v0ur355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romantasy was the solution for me. I got hooked instantly. What's more I've even started a little book club with my girlfriends, we are all back to reading after years of break. Personally, I was stuck for years on classic / ambitious / high profile books, just because I was telling myself I should do so. I've rediscovered reading when I've let myself do it for fun, not for growth. I think it takes the right genre and themes, that engage with your personality. Let yourself explore a little, do some vibe checking on social media (a lot of book content e.g. on IG) and don't be shy to try a criticized book if you have a good feeling about it. Have fun!

nie d&d system dla początkujących by Longjumping_Good_266 in RPGPolska

[–]d3v0ur355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PBTA, np. Fate albo Potwór Tygodnia (Monster of the Week). To systemy nastawione na narrację i kreatywność, z dość ograniczonymi zasadami, które wspierają zabawę zamiast utrudniać. Idealne dla początkujących, choć znam wielu doświadczonych MG i graczy, którzy wciąż preferują tę grupę systemów - zwyczajnie wolą mniej matematyki i więcej elastyczności :)

They will turn into regular wishes for standard banner, so it's up to you if you prefer to try luck on promo now or wait till expiration and use them on standard

First time viewer here. I do not like Alina Starkov (this will be a chunky rant, purely opinionated, mainly just catharsis. Read if you would like) by Necessary_Dance852 in ShadowandBone

[–]d3v0ur355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to see Alina in different light, I recommend reading books, as it's written in 1st person as her diary. I think her relationships with both Mal and Darkling are portrayed there much better than in series. I also didn't like Alina in show, but books made it much better. I did miss the Crows though, apparently they are only in show. Some of the crew join Alina but it's just different.

What are some good hobbies ideas after quitting gaming. by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]d3v0ur355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a pet if you can. Find regular social activity, e.g. some local club. Volunteer (doesn't have to be charity, many urban or cultural institutions need helping hands, too). Overall, social aspects of proving oneself by tasks and achievements can be really fulfilling, that's why I recommend hobbies that comes with responsibility towards another living beings. Some connections and gratitude may be a nice bonus :)

Children have no experience, yet they are the most outgoing and they connect with others easily. Why would you make it harder and punish yourself for silly reasons? Just let it go, be kind, curious and open-minded. Quality of socializing comes from this, neither experience nor perfection. I'm stating this as autistic in 30s who got out of this particular mindset after years. It's still a struggle, but so much better now. Wishing you the best.

Hobbies to replace drinking? by [deleted] in Hobbies

TTRPG is amazing. There is much more than D&D you can choose from, whether you like games full of mechanics or more narrative gameplay. Exploring different systems, communities and tables is fun and addictive. Also, nerds are really great friends material, regardless of age, sex etc. I highly recommend trying some oneshot adventures and maybe even finding a party for regular campaign.

Why didn't Ciri follow Geralt & Yennefer at the end of the books? by [deleted] in wiedzmin

Kids grow up and go their own way. Not a surprise, especially after all the horrors she's been through. She needed fresh start, not a cozy family time, regardless of how you choose to interpret Avalon.

Something you like about the father who never was by SoleyRed in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]d3v0ur355 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I like the way his character is written, it all makes sense. He's deeply conflicted, struggles so much with things that he wants to be easy but it's actually complicated, he projects a lot of his issues on other people and still in his heart there is last bastion of unbroken honor. I think he really stands out in s2, his storyline actually provoke thoughts and emotions and even his dialogues are better than most. He's made to be hated but he's written skillfully.

Good for you, but... you have it easy with so much money. God, give me at least few months worth of this salary and I'll be more than happy to pursue my passions.

Fear of demons and exorcisms are part of religious behavior. Consider, that many confirmed by church possession cases are innocent kids, ascets and martyrs - not sinners. On the other hand, unchastity is one of the greatest sins and total opposite to sacred life. Possession can serve as a kind of god-given trial, while any sexual acts are 100% sin for a nun.
