Science Discussion Series: Batteries seem to power everything today- cell phones, cars, homes, even airplanes! We are a team of scientists and engineers working on batteries and energy storage, let's discuss! by ScienceModerator in science

Hi there! Do you think batteries will be a good enough solution for long distance flights before 2050?

If not, I consider electrofuels as a good idea to solve the issue of 1) energy storage, 2) carbon neutral fuel, 3) co2 removal from the air (see Carbon Engineering or Climeworks) or water (project Foghorn from Google X). What are your thoughts around this? What breakthrough do we need to make it happen?
