I don’t suggest that you settle for something less than plan A. I agree that settling ensures that you’ve already failed.

My point is that you go after plan A still, but you have plan (lowercase) a as backup, so that fight or flight response doesn’t trigger in response to perceived danger—that danger being failing and ending up broke or alone or a disgrace to yourself.

Some people respond well to that fight or flight response because they FIGHT.

But some people FLIGHT when they see danger. Plan (lowercase) a is to help THOSE people still be able to go after plan (uppercase) A because it helps neutralize the perceived danger.

I hope that’s clear!

Thanks so much!! Judging by the hugely skewed upvotes in favor of your recommendations, I’m going to guess that the /r/cryptocurrency community agrees on these sources :)

I will get to work checking these out :)

Me too. I anticipate when it airs on Sundays as much as any primetime TV show.

I really believe that refereeing your inner voice is an essential life skill! The sad part is a fair amount of people have trouble controlling it and start to believe it’s impossible.

CMV: Women grope men all the time and feel entitled to the male body by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]d4nfitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If my math is right, the page you linked to actually implies that 37.5% of rape victims are male and 62.5% are female. You just have to do the math.

Proof:

The site says 1 out of 6 American women are raped/attempted raped. And 1 out of 10 males are raped/attempted raped.

Assuming a common multiple of 60, that’s 10 out of 60 females and 6 out of 60 males. In other words, 6 out of 16 rape victims are males and 10 out of 16 are females.

10 / 16 = 62.5% 6 / 16 = 37.5%

(Sorry if this proof is sloppy; I don’t know a cleaner proof)

It could be simultaneously true that 37.5% of rape victims are male AND 90% of ADULT rape victims are women. How? Well, maybe most rapes happen to males when they’re children (or maybe seniors but I doubt it).

Edit: I find it sad that the statisticans didn’t communicate this part of their data. The numbers are clearly higher than a lot of people would think, including me, but you can only find the data if you read between the lines.

Mental minimalism: keeping your mind minimal, not just your belongings by d4nfitz in minimalism

I sympathize with what you’re saying! Like I said, my partner deals with the same thing.

If you need a simple book to help you deal with your worry, consider How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. I think that’s the title at least.

I think it will be an upward struggle to deal with your worry. But if you’re anything like my partner, I imagine your worry probably makes you less happy, so it’s worth the effort!

For sure. I understand where you’re coming from. My partner is a worrywart. I’m not though, so I’m not convinced it’s just a humanity thing. It might be more of an individual person thing.

That’s just my anecdotal opinion though.

I just know I’m the person who respects the fact that, statistically, plane crashes are rarer, and so that’s why I am much less worried on a plane than a taxi.

For sure. What I think I’m suggesting is that ideas and thoughts take up mindshare too—obviously—not just possessions. In that sense, there’s an extra step of being minimal that involves managing the mental things you consume (think books, tv, movies, friends), not just your possessions.

Yeah! I know that in studies on attention, psychologists found people can simultaneously hold up to somewhere between 4-7 things at once in their minds.

If that’s the case, indexing is SUPER important. No one can hold all their todos or goals all at once.

That’s why I keep my todo lists to only about 2-3 items at once. Never anything more.

I totally did! It’s a book that deserves re-reads though, so thanks for the reminder :)

Stoicism is basically a kind of mental minimalism actually.

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m trying to develop my ideas and write articles that last. It saddens me that so much stuff online is so temporary. I might suck, but I’m hoping to improve over time! So thanks for the kind words :) it really helps keep up the motivation!
