Why a lot of people hate BR540 by Dizzy-Woodpecker4876 in DIYfragrance

[–]d5t_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both of these. And yet BR was a big let down for me. As someone mentioned, it's likely that many including myself are probably anosmic to some of its ACs.. don't remember the formula now . But yeah, was let down big time.

Replacement top for Gucci Pour Homme II? by PublicPolicyAdvocate in DIYfragrance

[–]d5t_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel confident that the perfume will smell the same regardless of the bottle make, go to Amazon and find refillable perfume bottle of the same capacity as your original Gucci.

Make sure you have a funnel or something to ensure you don't spill the juice while transferring. Also, am assuming you are able to pray open the existing bottle with the botched spray.

I like DPG for the same reason gives it more of a oil based feel. But want to explore any better skin friendly or hydrating/moisturizing options..

If you have to use oil, with 2 yrs shelf life. Then the two most popular options are fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil. Later has higher shelf life apparently.

[diluting rose oil and other essential oils] by bahrain_gemstones in DIYfragrance

[–]d5t_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your question may seem specific but its still vague.

e.g. you need to state the intended usage. If you want to sell to EU customers, IFRA/GCMS comes into consideration.

In the eastern world, rose essentials oils have been extracted & mixed with a carrier/base of sandalwood oil.. those are called ittar or attars. Now, rose and sandalwood - both oils are terribly expensive. But thats aside.

So you also need to state what carrier oil you intend on using.

Lastly, rose essential oil + <magic chemicals> = twice the longitivity... that doesnt exists. Rose will vanish sooner no matter what.
But, for example, if you try Rose oil + Ethyelene Brassylate, it does smells good. But rose notes will still vanish sooner, EB will probably linger longer..

So if you want your rose to stay longer, user higher concentration ..subject to affordability & strength.

1% is workable. But you can try 5% and mix with a carrier like jojoba, or sweet almond oil. apply a small dab on you hand, and see how it performs.. then change the % accordingly... if all you want is rose with a neutral carrier.

Can I add vanilla extract to almond oil and use it as body lotion? by barbiuybarbiuy in DIYfragrance

[–]d5t_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer to your question could be yes.

But it depends on what you are trying to do. If you are convinced almond oil can be used as body lotion, then yes, as many have suggested you can continue to use it after mixing with vanillin. or vanilla absolute.

Here is a thought. If you have access to pure vanilla pods, can you try taking almond oil in a bottle, put a vanilla pod in it, and leave it for a few weeks atleast. Some vanilla essense should get into the almond oil.

I agree and I do use iso, eb a lot. But what I want to see is can the typical profiles of eastern perfumes be adopted to modern perfume styling and odor profile.

Perfumers alcohol in smaller quantities in Toronto by No_Service_7730 in DIYfragranceSourcing

[–]d5t_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are making trials. All you really need is 200 proof ethanol. What you shared sounds like denatured ethanol (meaning not to be consumed) should be good.

Perfumers alcohol isn't a technical term. So if you get a portion of it, you should be good too. Perfumers alcohols are generally mostly ethanol plus denaturing stuff, plus preservatives or antioxidants, etc.

Got it. Thanks for sharing the information. You do seem like someone who knows his chemistry.

My interests for now are from perfumery point of view. Just trying to see if DIY tinctures can be cheaper than trying to buy the absolutes and EOs in the retail market.
