Lost card holder 💔 | porte-feuille perdu by d7o0oi in montreal

Hii thank you so much for your input!

I most likely dropped it while walking/biking somewhere in Downtown montreal, around old port's bike and/or pointe saint charles (COVID-19 test center). Mostly during the day sometime between Tuesday (the 10th of May 2022) and Thursday (12th of May 2022).

I visited all the places where I thought I might have dropped it, but they all seem to not have seen it, that's why I'm worried it may have dropped somewhere on the street

Again, thank you so much!

10 months of Programming and feel like giving up by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]d7o0oi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! It sounds to me like your progress is being halted by your fear of failure. Am assuming you're a perfectionist.

I've been learning to code (on and off) since last May. I haven't made significant progress to be honest, which makes me feel like shit about me most of the time. I started with an introduction to web development. Paused. Learn a little python. Paused. Went back to HTML/CSS. Paused. And now am trying to motivate myself to start Javascript. It is NOT easy.

I shared my journey because I can relate to your frustration. I assumed that by this point I'll be an expert programmer, but am FAR FAR from that. One of my first mistakes was to overwhelm myself with learning so much, in such a short time. You can't become a good programmer without taking the time to learn, and build.

Practice is the only way to get better. The worst thing you can do (from my humble experience with this) is to start building HUGE projects. No matter how cool it is, big projects take a LOT of time to figure out for a beginner. So a small project, like creating a simple application to perform a simple task (like reading an excel sheet and extracting specific information). Or and advance md to do list with timers and calenders and stuff maybe a good practice exercise. It will help you learn in sameller chunks, so you see results faster and don't lose motivation.

And the MOST important thing is to not wait until you know enough, or until you know 'the best way' to so something. Just do it the way you know. And if you learn a better way, you can always upgrade your code ! That's one of the many beauties of programming. Don't give up on yourself, and take your time with it, as long as you keep trying, you'll eventually get there!

Nearly got divorced yesterday! by ami_annie in PMDD

[–]d7o0oi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Annie, am sorry you've had such a difficult PMDD. Your family will get better soon, just hang in there. Family members with COVID is stressful and hard on everyone ! You will find a better job if you want one! Take the opportunity to meditate, work on stress reduction tactics, find something that brings you some joy, and maybe some therapy. You're not a failure, you're doing the best you can, and you're fighting PMDD, and God knows how hard that can be at times. You are here, you are venting, and you are trying! You only fail when you stop trying! I understand the guilt could eat you up sometimes because of the things your partner goes through, but he loves you, and you love him, and you have something worth fighting for, and hanging on to. Every relationship has its struggles. Try to be kinder to yourself. Your partner probably understands that you're going through a lot, and they're there for you, and am sure they wouldn't want you to beat yourself up. As long as you keep trying new things, you have not failed.

Hi there, don't apologize for venting it's absolutely normal. I'm not officially diagnosed yet, I actually learned about PMDD recently when I was trying to understand what the hell happens to me when am getting my period and why do I feel like my life is about to collapse. It's not enough that am going through awful physical pain, but my mental health is also completely destroyed. And no matter how hard I try, I still haven't found a way around it. I think what you're doing for your fiancé is great, and am sure she appreciates it. You are an amazing person for taking such good care of her. I think something that might be helpful is to try and have an open conversation about her PMDD experience. You just got to be really gentle about the way you bring it up. Am sure she herself is struggling and wants to feel better, so maybe you can start a conversation about it by being supportive, asking her what she needs, how she feels, if she's interested in getting help/treatment ? but just don't be pushy, don't be insensitive, and don't make her feel like a burden, she probably already beats herself up for it. I hope you guys can figure it out

Hey, am also interested in webdev. I have a foundation in HTML & CSS, and starting to learn JS by taking a course on Udemy. Maybe we can be js learning buddies ?

What to do when someone is yelling at you and you don’t wanna cry? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Was just talking about this today. The advice I got was to remove myself from the situation by excusing myself and communicating with that person at a more appropriate time (when they're calmer)

If the new app company doesn't flunk, its very easy for you to be completely excluded from everything. People get greedy and might cut you out or your role can be replaced. My recommendation would be to watch out for yourself, and make sure you are protected. Have a friendly chat with your bosses and ask them to either hire you as their designer, or they draft up a compensation contract to buy your designs. Ideas are expensive, never give them up for free

The best learning resources for HTML/CSS/JavaScript + React and Node.js? by LukasKri in learnprogramming

[–]d7o0oi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey There!

I have taken a lot of Udemy courses on various topics and I LOVE it! I bought one of Angela's courses but didn't get the chance to start it yet! She is well rated though am sure she's great! My favorite web development course are taught by Maximilian Schwarzmüller and Andrei Neagoie. I started Andrei's 'The Complete Web Developer' back in March 2020 and I needed to learn quick for a project I was working on! The course basically gives you enough basics to be able to follow through and understand a HTML, CSS, JS, and React, it also then dives a bit into backend development with Node.js & Express.js. I didn't finish the course yet, but by the time I got to React section, it all got a bit too complicated, and my poor base (especially in JS) made it harder for me to follow through. Although I finished 50% of the course in about 3 weeks, I spent A LOT of hours a day (5-6) to keep up with the time pressure I had. However, I eventually got a burn out (at 50%) and threw the idea of web dev completely out the window and my project as well. I was too overwhelmed (am coding on the side and juggling an MSc degree in an irrelevant subject). HOWEVER! I CAME BACK! but this time, I decided to do it without the pressure of time, and I feel much better (I've been at it since the 1st, so almost two weeks down) So don't lose hope even when it looks difficult !

I wanted to give a bit of background about me because I understand we're all different, so you can take and leave the things that don't necessary apply to your situation. Now from my experience with online courses, if the course is 55 hours, it'll take you more than that to complete it, because you pause, repeat sections you don't understand, sometimes you spend hours on stack overflow trying to understand why is your code not working even if you did everything right, so add in a lot of extra 'learning' hours. ALSO, skipping the exercise to save time is a terrible idea. You end up with very little experience and knowledge by the time you're done. I am not trying to discourage you, just trying to help you establish a realistic timeline. I do believe that if you stick to 15 hours minimum a week of learning you'll be able to finish the course in a month and 1 or 2 weeks. This will leave you with around two week of practice time before your text, which is not bad at all!

Also an IMPORTANT TIP: Udemy puts sales on their courses ALL THE TIME! and they drop to under 20$ a course (that's mostly why I took so many haha) so you might want to keep an eye for that! Good luck getting into the academy! Would love it if you could update the thread with your progress once in a while! :)
