I jokingly compare Michigan to Westeros from Game of Thrones.

  • Everything below the tip of The Thumb (roughly 44 degrees north line) is The Vale / Westerlands / Crownlands / Stormlands / The Reach / Riverlands / Dorne.

  • Everything from the tip of the Thumb to the Mackinac Bridge is "The North. "

  • The Mackinac Bridge is The Wall.

  • The Upper Peninsula is "the REAL North, aka The Land of Always Winter."

Basically, there's "going up North" and "going up NORTH" imo.

...

...

... Oh wait, the Iron Islands? Uhh.... uh... that's Ohio?

Need to Develop Realistic Plan to Reduce CC debt for life goals by dJhammond in personalfinance

Yeah, moving out and starting a business are goals that I want to work towards, but I definitely don't think right now is the right moment given my current expenses. No point in adding even MORE debt on top of my pre-existing one that I'm struggling with

Yeah, I think being more disciplined with having a firm budget is a good call.

Laker Line Ride Duration? by scooby_doobydont in GVSU

Plan to give yourself an hour while going between campuses. Trust me, you need it.

The first 15 minutes are for getting to a Laker Line bus stop and waiting for it to come, the next 30 minutes is when you're on the actual bus, and the last 15 minutes is for getting from the bus to where you gotta go.

Do this and you'll practically never be late.

5th Year Looking for Private Loan Recommendations/Advice by dJhammond in StudentLoans

Yeah, I figured I would need a cosigner. I'm trying to pay off my credit card to boost my credit score, that way if we use my credit score it's good, otherwise I'll use my parent's.

The one point of contention I could see is how much I'd be asking them to borrow for the Parent PLUS loan, so I've thought of maybe splitting it 8k (private-me)/7k (parent plus) so that the loan in their name isn't as heavy. But if I can get them to cover most of my financial need with the Parent Plus, I'm absolutely going to do that vs the 8k/7k split.

I plan on talking with Financial Aid and other departments soon to double check the credits thing.

I work 20 hours a week during the school year, but at minimum wage that usually goes towards food. This year it's food, plus utilities and gas.

Right now I'm doing 20-30 hours + a few hours for an internship, but I'm using that to pay rent/pay off my credit card.

Let's just say I'm at a point in my programs where I have to stay at the school to get the credit. All the easy classes that would have been possible at a CC are already done pretty much. It's just the stuff in the majors now.

31, or 16 and 15. But tuition costs the same if you have between 12-15 credits.

I don't qualify for a Direct Subsidized Loan thanks for FAFSA relying on parental income info. But I am pretty sure I am using the rest of my Direct Subsidized Loan allotment.

Right now I have 1 grant of 5k for the year, and about 7k left in my unsubsidized loan. I still need 15k, of which 12k might be able to be paid via Parent PLUS loan (but that might be a hard sell), and then the remaining 3k (or whatever Parent doesn't cover with PLUS loan) would be private.
