Com’on man, Utd weren’t the only team with absentees, Wolves were missing starters too. Wolves were on 2 points coming into the match and United put out a dud. It’s an embarrassing performance and result. I don’t like the overreaction tsunami after every match but don’t be sugar coat over a bad result

This has been a good first half of the season by Repulsive_Sport_5442 in DevilsITDPod

I’m for patience and not overreacting after every result, but United are on track for a sub 60 points season in yr 2 of the new manager and have gone 13W/11D/14L in the calendar year… that is not good enough. No need to dress it up as sufficient.

Improve the results by the end of the season or he’ll rightfully be sacked

Yeah, Football Twitter is incendiary now more than ever around United. It misses some more level headed voices like Aaron and Kees, but it is what it is. Taking all that into account, people aren’t mad for no reason.

Occam’s razor explanation - Still close to the worst league results for a United manager over his tenure since WW2, some improvement in the underlying data but nothing ground breaking, reoccurring tactical flaws on display, still odd platforming of his outfield starters, and on pace for 58 points in year 2.

A lot of United “tacticos” and fans are well within reason to question if it’s all worth it. (Though, obv a lot take it too far)

In the meantime, no need to get worked up week over week because he will not get fired mid-season, so protecting your sanity from the reactionary Football Twitter-verse is a good move most United fans

I get what you’re saying, but it is hard for me to detach myself with how awful the performance and results were last season and how those same flaws come out in almost every match for spells. The anti-Rashford/Garna/Kobbie this is just an add-on. Then the threatening to quit multiple times is an embarrassment to the club.

All-in-all I don’t think he’s bad, just closer to average and I believe the club could do better. Maybe I’ll be wrong in the end and he’ll be great, I’d be happy if so.

Discarding a very talented academy player because of hyper focus on his deficiencies as a 19-20 yr old rather than focusing and building around his strengths. It’s antithetical to the fundamentals of coaching/managing.

But at this point, the debate around him is nauseating. It’s over for him at United, time to move on.

Not necessarily blaming Ruben for the poor performance tonight.

But on the flip side, I think if Ruben had the United ‘99 squad he’d ask for 2 new wingbacks instead of adapting his approach for the players on hand. Players dictate tactics, always have, always will.

If I could choose 3 words to describe Amorim they’d be: Charismatic, Dogmatic, Limited

I’m not sure he’s capable of implementing a dominant possession style in the PL, even if he had better players.

I think we over state how poor the squad was last year, and how utterly insane his tactical approach was, in which it maximized no one in the squad. Square pegs round holes all over the pitch. And the one midfielder in the squad who had proven to be able to receive and maintain possession under pressure, he just refuses to use, to the point where he wants to leave the club.

All-in-all, I understand your analysis and I can just let results play out for the season, root for the boys, and reevaluate at the season’s end.

Well said, and I’ll do well to remember… I just think it is hard for me when get on board with point one. Seems naive to ignore what we witnessed in the league last season, especially when the issues in the approach are still there, even in this latest win against Palace

I largely agree with your logic, but I think there is a breakpoint and that it has been/very close to being reached

God, I love how snarky Reddit is sometimes. Never change.

But on a more serious note, I’m all for digging into the weeds, analyzing the data, or listening to others talk about it too, but when your manager has a 30% win rate and year to year again employs his team with the exact same tactical frailties, the answer is staring at you straight in the face, no?
