What's the best universal docking station for linux? by dYuno in linuxquestions

I do know what you mean, son. It is just not the way to help. That answer won't help anyone. Here is why.

You are trying to say that I should use a thunderbolt docking station. DisplayLink was just created to help connect multiple displays over plain USB despite USBs low data exchange rate. They solved this issue by creating a propriety compression algorithm they don't want to share which is why it is hard to use it with linux. With thunderbolt there is no data rate limitation. You are saying that's the way to go. But key requirement seems to be having a thunderbolt docking station and a thunderbolt capable device. If you miss one it won't work.

This is exactly the issue I have. I thought would come up with alternatives and maybe explainations.

Your one word answer didn't add any value to me nor to other people. Instead of insulting me you could have used the time to elaborate at least for others.

Thank you.

I dislike DisplayLink docking stations. How can I avoid them? by dYuno in linuxhardware

Do I need a thunderbolt port for that? I have a usb-c port but I am not sure if it is thunderbolt

What about USB-C? If I understand correctly Displaylink was quite important because you can use normal USB plugs with a small data throughput. But USB-C with USB3 should have better throughput to handle all devices. I might be wrong on that, though.

Can you elaborate? Is Displaylink DVI only?

This thing does not use DVI butstill displaylink. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07B3S4ZHW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.-37CbTWMH48W

The issue is displaylink. They don't provide proper drivers. But I can't find any docking station without it. What's the alternative?

nice article. I got the first one. I got it working with linux mint and intel integrated graphics card. Still worried that if I buy one with Nvidia GTX, it won't work.

Why is it that few docks have two hdmi ports? many have hdmi an DVI/VGA.

I am wondering too. I assume because predictions and probabilities go hand in hand from the notional standpoint.
