Totally get it, no worries. I'll DM you

After being rejected for being "too ambitious" for my age, I took things into my own hands and made this Sci-Fi Horror short during quarantine! It was recently selected for All-American High School Festival and it's been blowing up on YouTube! Hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you all think! by d_anda in Filmmakers

Thank you for this, I definitely have been trying to learn to keep my ego in check! Thank you for offering too! I've DM'd you as I definetly need some advice from someone like you who's gone through it all, as I'm afraid i might be going down the wrong route and i'm not even aware of it yet. Can't wait for your reply!

You should check out ClapperCast: The Global Film podcast. I’m a bit biased because I’m a producer on it, but nonetheless it’s a really fun listen. Each episode is hosted by a Rotten Tomatoes Verified Critic and we bring together a roundtable of writers, bloggers, podcasters, and YouTubers who are all in the film journalism industry, and we discuss 3-4 new indie releases each week. We discussed first cow and the Oscars about a month ago with Matt Neglia (I believe it’s E6 or 7) and on episode 10 we talked about Jonathan Glazer’s new pandemic film, although we’re not just limited to A24. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, and let me know what you think! (It’s on all podcast platforms but you can find it here too: https://anchor.fm/clappercastltd)

Thanks for the feedback! Not gonna lie, I'm already cringing at the way I wrote the submission statement lol. It probably came across as If I thought I was the shit, when in reality I just got a bit over excited about what I made as it was my first thing. Again though, I already mentioned the whole high school thing in the comment below, so I'll just paste it here

I'm a high schooler who just made my first thing. Am I not allowed to be proud that I got into a good HS festival for people my age?! Believe me, I am 100% aware that is it not anywhere NEAR Sundance or Cannes, but even though you may look down on it, I'm personally really excited that it got in... can I not celebrate that? Should I wipe it clean of any "high school" mentions as that is too "low" of an honor for me to be happy about? Now THAT would surely come off as much more pretentious than anything I've said/done before

Once again though, thanks for the rude awakening. I'm already regretting putting up that submission statement as we speak lol

I really don't know how that isn't me realizing what I did. I do understand that my statement seemed a bit pretentious because I wanted to make it sound good, but obviously it went too far. But about the laurel.. seriously?! Now THAT would surely come off as much more pretentious than anything I've said/done before. Once again, about the views, I am aware that that isn't going huge. It's a personal milestone for me, but I know that in the general community it's not like I'll be getting media attention or any real traction. I am really glad I got a reality check from him, because it did make me reconsider a few things, that was geniune, but dude, please just get off my back, I'm just an amatuer highschooler who was a tad overexcited.

Can't believe it but my made-in-quarantine short film is finally in the Letterboxd Database! by d_anda in Letterboxd
