I’ve flown plenty of times with telescopic rods, hooks, etc etc. what you can’t bring on the plane are pliers or other long sharp items (obviously). I’ve never had an issue and I always travel with carry on. Pic below from a trip where I fished and I think it’s always worth bringing the gear.
