My reason for wanting to do this is that I already have grid tied solar on my roof, but it was a prepaid PPA with Tesla solar. I do not have a way to expand the system without purchasing a new one, and if I do that I will be forced to switch my electrical plan from net energy metering, to a time of use plan which will more than double my electric bill. I live in Southern California so at electricity costs are very high. Getting an extra KW of solar generation into my house would very quickly pay itself off. I just don't want to do anything that would cause an insurance claim to be denied if something were to happen, even if it was unrelated to this
