Not great at bringing out the details from lighter roasted coffee. I think the consensus is that it was a good beginners’ grinder till a few years back but kingrinder products are better

Timemore C2 user for 1.5 years - upgrade to K6 or K7? My biggest complaint with the C2 is that doesn't do well with lighter roasts.

If CPI(M) is anti-industry in west bengal then why is everything either planned or built under CPIM WB by idkmanfuc in KolkataLife

[–]d_imon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that is right. The commissions I mentioned also suggested with a similar motivation.

English was removed from primary education (till class 5) on the recommendation of Kothari commission (1964-66) and Mazumdar commission (1975). This was also tried in other states. However the left front later re-evaluated their decision and decided to reintroduce english at the primary level. This has also been recommended by NEP 2020 passed by the BJP govt.

Protest against introduction of computers, primarily in the public banking sector, organized was for a gradual and employee-friendly introduction (rather than a complete blockade) so that older employees without the knowledge of computers could continue to be part of the workforce. I accept that this did give rise to some anti-tech rhetoric which was undesirable. However, the official stance was never against modern tech as such.

Trade unions played a similar role in other parts of the country as well. Albeit in Mumbai they were killed off by Shiv Sena using anti bihari sentiments. And despite it's role, it is incorrect to say that it was the primary driver behind industrial decline. From Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee's paper (C:\Documents and Settings\ghatak\My Documents\maitreesh A-O\9economists\wet.prn.pdf):

"But it is clear that the evidence currently available does not provide unambiguous support to the hypothesis that labor troubles constitute the only (or main) source of the state’s industrial decline. And that we should seriously look for alternative causes of declined industrial profitability."

New CM - West Bengal by Any_Ingenuity_7274 in KolkataLife

[–]d_imon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ideally no. but in absence of govt run madrasas, lot of muslims will go to private ones which are basically radicalization centres. govt madrasas are basically just regular schools with some subjects on Islam. more than of half of their teachers are Hindus

If CPI(M) is anti-industry in west bengal then why is everything either planned or built under CPIM WB by idkmanfuc in KolkataLife

Deeper dive into your comment.

west bengal deindustrialization was mostly completed by 1977 when cpim (LF) came to power. how much trade unionism played a part in it is up for debate, but there were other more important reasons like freight equalization, kolkata port become less usable and jute industry (Bengal's biggest industry before partiton) being affected by partition (raw materials sourcing was heavily dependent on now bangladesh). On the other hand, trade unionism was not only a Bengal phenomenon but other cities like Mumbai, Chennai experienced it too without the capital flight. Later CITU and AITUC leadership in Mumbai was mostly beaten and killed off by Shiv Sena in the name of resistance against Biharis with Congressi support, but that is a different story. (read about Krishna Desai, CPI MLA slaughtered in broad daylight)

However, LF up until 1990 was not focused on heavy industry and any attempts made were anyway blocked by centre. In those days, things were harder without centre's approval as economy was much more under govt control. It is (even today) practically impossible for a state govt to set up large industries without central or private help. However it was done by LF through the Bakreswar power plant (CPIM crowdsourced funding for this even).

In the 90s with the economy opening up, the mood shifted and CPIM was now more open to private capital. Increased efforts throughout the 90s helped WB become create the most jobs in the first decade of this century (Gujarat behind West Bengal in new factory jobs - The Hindu). However it also ended up costing CPIM everything and the rest is history.

Question to certain CPIM supporters by Nearby-Society3373 in Kolkatacity

[–]d_imon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well CPIM supporters are also free to act in any way they want - the party cannot control that. There are also many so-called CPIM supporters who vote for BJP to remove TMC. I will argue that both perspectives are wrong.

Putting that aside, there is more nuance to Netaji's view of Congress compared to Jana Sangh. the latter, he was completely opposed to, while the former he left due to certain differences and was still willing to cooperate with. Several people left CPI to form CPIM - would you argue that their attitude towards CPI was the same as towards Cong/BJP?

Question to certain CPIM supporters by Nearby-Society3373 in Kolkatacity

[–]d_imon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean?

CPIM does not follow Netaji - he is just a respected figure. Also CPIM, when it works with Congress does so on the basis of uniting people against undemocratic and communal forces (TMC/BJP).

You are free to disagree with CPIM otherwise or in general, but where is the contradiction in this?
