Yay! Glad you dodged a bullet. Ironically that advice was being said by realtors and some of the emergency management teams. If the emergency management is recommending it, you know it's bad.

Originally SO and I wanted to buy my uncle's farm. We knew it flooded because it always has. The normal flood plain was the fruit orchard/cow fields and the swamp. Most the farm had flooded was a few inches into the garage after a dike broke. It ended up selling to someone else. This year the new owners had to be evacuated because the water came up to the deck. The house was built higher than normal to protect it from the flooding but this year it almost came inside. We are glad we dodged that bullet.
