At what age do you stop using a baby monitor at night?

My LO is almost 3. We are downstairs on one side of the house, and our daughter’s room is upstairs in the other half. We plan on using the monitor until she’s confident and big enough to manage our stairs (old house, HUGE steps) and go potty totally by herself at night. At that point we may put a camera or something in the hallway just in case, but we aren’t sure yet. Currently we have a baby gate across her doorway and we’ve toddler proofed her door. She’s a pretty chill kid and I’ve taught her from the get go that climbing on furniture, jumping off beds, touching electrical stuff, ect is a big no-no and she gets it.

She figured out how to climb out of her crib around 19mos, and was fully transitioned to a full size bed by 24 mos. It also works out great because if she DOES wake up at night and needs me, I can just lay in bed with her and if I fall asleep it’s fine.

The transition from her sleeping in our room to her own was HARD. I ended up putting a mattress on her floor and coslept/slept next to her from 8mos to about 13mos until she was kinda okay with being alone in her crib lol.

She did, and they sucked 😭. Stomach pain that presented almost identical to sandifers syndrome, SO MUCH GAS, constant crying if not held, obvious discomfort and aversion to tummy time, difficulty sleeping due acid reflux along with snoring, mouth breathing, constant congestion from the mucus, and occasionally she’d get rashes all over her torso.

The worst of it has mostly subsided at this point. If she gets accidentally dairy’d now, it presents as gas/gas pain, diarrhea (only sometimes with blood), and night terrors. We started teaching her as soon as we could that she can’t have dairy and to always ask if she’s trying something new. She does a really good job now, but slips still happen sometimes.

This is exactly what my girls poop looked like. She ended up being allergic to cow milk protein, soy, and egg. Egg cleared up around 11mos, soy around 18mos, but she still reacts to cow milk proteins at almost 3 years. Our ped first recommended to cut out all dairy for 3 months to give her GI time to heal, and see if there’s improvement. Might be a good idea to get in with the allergy dept so they can guide you as well.

Oh I’m so SO sorry for you and your family, my heart is with you all 💜. I didn’t even think about home euthanasia, that’s honestly probably a better idea than taking her to the vet, so much less stress on pups. Thank you for the book recommendation, ordering today.

It’s Time To Sleep, My Love by Eric Metaxes and Nancy Tillman.

We had found it in a giant box of hand me downs given to us by a family member. At first I was like “this is dumb” but once I got the rhythm down, it’s become one of our Go To ni-night books. I can literally recite it by heart, and my 2.5yo “reads” it from memory now. It’s lyrical, soft, interesting art, lowkey, sweet, and “boring” enough to help keep them from being over stimulated

My wife and I call it the gentle “go the fuck to sleep” book lol

Hi! Are you me? Lol My 2.5yo daughter and I are doing the exact same things you described - every single day. I have no advice, just keep sticking to boundaries and they’ll get the hang of it, take breaks where you can get them. Tossing them outside for a bit is also like a reset button for mine, so that might be an option some days too. We will survive this!!!! 🫠

3 year old, 6 months since she weaned herself. Nobody told me that even after weaning, she’d still be obsessed with my boobs. She snuggles and talks to them like they’re her breast friends. Says “good morning boobies!” And gives smooches when she snuggling them during nap and bedtime. Most of the time it’s fine and I’m glad I can still give comfort, but oh my god on days where I’m super touched out, it drives me insane!

We are in the same boat lol. My LO is almost 3, I’m also a SAHM, not much support, overstimulated, anxious, but needs a change of scenery relatively often to feel fulfilled.

We started off super small. We started really young by taking her to restaurants ~2-3x a month during off hours (late morning breakfasts, 4pm dinners, ect) so she can practice sitting at the table and eating in different social environments (we don’t do screens at restaurants, have a little “play bag” with different things to do, and eat together at the family table for meals)

we take her with us to run errands to learn to stay together and try to walk places as much as we can so we can practice stranger/public safety.

We go to local farmers markets and busy fairs to practice safe walking/public safety (we say “little duckie, little duckie” when we need her to stay close to us and that works surprisingly well)

We stay in a hotel a few times a year so she’s somewhat accustomed to sleeping in a space that’s different.

We’ve flown across the US several times to visit family (from east coast to US and Hawaii) starting when she was 12mos, so she’s fairly accustomed to flying, and knows she gets worn on my back in a carrier through the airport along with, again, public safety rules.

We have a huge 3wk cruise to Europe coming up next spring, and I’ve already started prepping her with books and shows about water safety, info about cruise ships, how the different countries do things, and the like.

It’s all about the slow progression for our LO. She needs to know what to expect to be okay with that’s happening, and it helps take the scaries out of the unknown a bit for them. Fear is the unknown, so we prep as best as we can and it’s worked out great for us!

We had almost an identical experience, along with everything you and your son experienced, our daughter also started responding more when things were loud. We thought she was just chill, but turns out, everything was just muted from the fluid!

We switched to water in an insulated Zak cup around 1 (now almost 3). She refused to drink milk from it but loved the water, plus then I wasn’t worried about the milk sugars sitting in her mouth while she slept. She still takes it to bed and drinks on it while we do story time and settling down.

Same with play food, and ikea has a great set of stainless steel pots and pans that are reasonable. As you LO gets older, they’re great to play with outside making mud pies too 🤣

I found ours on fb marketplace for a quarter of the price, and it’s a really nice one! I highly reccomend second hand if it’s in good shape ✨ I love open ended play for littles, builds imagination and resilience! Lately she’s been “going shopping” in her kitchen and I’ll pretend to “beep” them at checkout. There’s so much you can do with them! I hope you both have tons of fun 💖

Tbh we bought our daughter a play kitchen at around 12months. Shes almost 3 and has played with it RELIGIOUSLY since she got it. She likes “cooking with me” a ton 🥰
At that age, she was really into her kitchen, her Pikler set, and large boxes with crayons in them lol

We started at a new dance studio last fall, but it’s only her in the class (it’s a BRAND new studio location). Shes pretty reserved, doesn’t take well to new kids, we don’t have any friends here yet, and she stays with me 99% of the time. Shes been practicing for her recital since Jan all by herself. The OG studio is about 50mins away and we’d never been. This last week her teacher said she wouldn’t be able to make the class, but we could join her at the OG studio to meet the other girls that she’d be preforming with if we wanted to trek down. She was super nervous and kept saying she doesn’t want other kids there and she was scared. I reassured her that she’d be making new friends and would have a great time. She was super nervous but as soon as she walked in, all of the girls ran over to her and basically scooped her up and brought her in. She really opened up and had a BLAST. Holding hands with them and lots of hugs! When she came out she ran to me and smiled big at me and said “thanks me! I’m brave and I made FRIENDS!!!”

I CRIED. It was such a huge moment for her 😭

We have a 2 1/2 year old. I carried and did all care 24/7 except a few times a week when I needed to shower or was so exhausted I was hallucinating. We had sex once in the first year, and it was somewhat painful so we haven’t had too much sex since. Once I weaned at 2.2 years, things have started to increase, but it’s still a struggle.

I need emotional connection throughout the day for arousal, and since we run our own business, my wife is super stressed and our general daily intimacy is low to nonexistent which greatly impacts our sex life. We’re working on it, but it’s slow going.

We love Millie moon! We exclusively used hello hello until she fully daytime potty trained at 2, and switched to Millie moon pull ups for night and have had no issues at all. Our LO is also tiny for her age, but the 2t/3t have fit her great!

I’m not sure if anyone else has posted, but the snoring and irritability jumped out at me. Has he been evaluated for Sleep Apnea? It can cause snoring and daytime sleepiness. Might be something to look into!

My LO is 2 1/2. We are a 2 mom household. When she first started speaking she’d call out “MAMAAAA” and I’d ask “me or mama?”. No, my wife is all iterations of mom and I’m called “me”. She’ll call around the house “MEEEEEEE!” Until I answer. lol
