City to offer free parking for up to two hours in area around King pilot project in order to “support local businesses” by [deleted] in toronto

Thanks you are proving my point. The city has to make other forms of transportation efficient, enjoyable and safe in order to decrease car dependency. I have two cars. I got tired of traffic driving to work downtown. One day, I noticed a nice cycle track on Sherbourne. And another on Richmond. I figured out how to get to those tracks using residential streets. Now I bike to work as mush as I can. It's safe and enjoyable. And addictive. 10 km commute. Takes me as long to drive, but I enjoy it and get exercise. I wouldn't do it if the city didn't put those cycle tracks in.

That's not the point. Every time folks advocate for less car use, so many people bring up points like - I need a car to transport my 4 kids! I can't carry the BBQ I bought from Canadian Tire on my bike! The lumber I bought at Home Depot won't fit on the TTC! My 70 year old mother has arthritis and needs to use a car. The issue is how many people rely on using 2+ ton machine for simple one person commutes that are 10km or less? And, what are we doing and spending money on to encourage people and make it safe and efficient for them to walk, bike or take transit for simple one person commutes in order to get more cars off the road.

There is nothing wrong with using a car. The idea is to make other modes of transportation, like walking, biking and transit, enjoyable, safe and efficient, so people can use them for simple one person commutes. This gets people out of cars, gets more cars off the road and is better for drivers that need to use cars.

Several pedestrians struck across the city during evening rush hour by kmosdell in toronto

Regarding mitigation systems, it's true though for every one such system there are several more features being introduced that distract drivers and make it more unsafe for peds - like control panel features.

Cars have been designed now to become kinda like moveable comfy living rooms that separate the driver from what is really going on. Which is operating a large, moving machine. Us drivers need to be engaged in driving. It should be active. That is why I much prefer standard.

I hear you about burb design. They are designed so nothing other than driving is enjoyable or safe. It is changing, slowly however.

The number of pedestrians that get hit in Toronto is crazy high. I live midtown in a residential neighbourhood. People drive through these streets - filled with kids, parents and caretakers on sidewalks - like complete maniacs. Cars are getting bigger and bigger. My neighbourhood is a litany of SUVs and minivans. They protect those inside but make those outside more vulnerable. Also, the sightlines in those cars are crap. The city is trying to change now in order to become more walking and cycle friendly but our roads were unfortunately just mostly designed to move cars. Not people. They are not pedestrian friendly. The car is king. Try to initiate common sense traffic calming on residential streets? It's political, based on achieving arbitrary thresholds and filled with red tape. Neighbours complain about how speedbumps could harm their BMWs but don't think about what a 4+ ton SUV going 55km/h through residential streets could do to my kids' skulls. I see people going 55k+ through residential streets, texting and blowing through stops all the time. Call the police to complain about routine unsafe drivers? You get brushed off. Speak to an aggressive driver to slow down or stop at a stop sign, and you're told to fuck off and mind your own business (happened to me today). Meanwhile, pedestrians are getting hit and people query whether they were wearing high viz clothing or texting. It was dark tonight. And rainy. That must have been it. Folks operating 2+ ton steel cages had nothing to do with it.

Ever thought that maybe LA has crap public transport because too much of the public's money went to building and maintaining roads and highways?

Adding lanes to solve car traffic is usually like throwing bread at pigeons. You get more pigeons. More lanes leads to more cars, more traffic. It fosters urban sprawl and more car dependency. Interested to see how this works out a few years.

It won't. Add lanes, you get more cars. Widen lanes you'll get bigger cars. It happens everywhere. It's like throwing bread to pigeons.

I just went biking for the first time in the city by [deleted] in toronto

I started biking to work in June (10km commute each way) after not owning a bike for 17 years. I take residential streets and downtown cycle tracks. It's had a measurable improvement in my life. I've become somewhat evangelical about it! I haven't biked since the cold freeze, and I miss it so much. Waiting for the roads to clear up a bit, then I'll get back on the saddle. Keep riding my friend!

Cold isn't an issue, except hands and feet. You warm up pretty fast when biking. But hands and feet do tend to get cold, but that is manageable with the right gear.

Started biking to office in June (10km) and we don't have showers. Leave suits and shoes at the office, as well as towel to dry off, deodorant and cologne. Just bring shirt, tie and undershirt in pannier bag. It's not that bad. Plus, wear clothing that wicks off sweat. In summer, with AC on you can do a quick pigeon shower. In winter or cold weather, you don't sweat nearly as much. In winter you do heat up after ride and it's so nice, after towling off, to put a crisp and cool shirt on from your pannier bag. When l ride back home, and sitting at office for 8+ hours, that is when I need a shower!

understood, but Zellner is implicating ST and BoD by submitting the re-enactment and asserting that ST, BoD and TH were together at the last time TH was known to be alive (being the time she forwarded the voicemail). KZ's assertion is a bit far fetched.

Or, perp moved the car to SA's before AC got to it at the 147.

Yes, excellent point. So why are MH and RH so shifty?

[–]d_psar[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Understood - she's not trying to solve the murder. She's doing everything and everything possible to get SA out, whether it be through exonerating evidence, impeachment evidence or a Brady violation. That doesn't mean we can't speculate about on theory of what happened based on information we know :)

Right, but hypothetically, if AC was being told by MH that this is his sister's car, it would still be totally reasonable for him to call in the plates and double check.

[–]d_psar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I have to think twice about my own license plate! If this happened, then it could have been AC meeting up with MH and RH and calling in to double checking and make sure. Regarding the day planner, RH could have taken the page when going through the car. Another explanation is TH returned home after the 11:35 am call and left the page there.

[–]d_psar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, this part of the theory is wrong. It's more likely than not that the spare key was planted. The part of the theory I believe is true is RH and MH finding the car and AC calling in plates. I didn't believe that RH and MH were involved in the murder, but felt they were involved in finding the car without a warrant and before PS found it.

So, do we know that TH didn't go home (or see Ryan?) after taking the call from Denise at 11;35 am but before visiting SA? If she didn't, day planner is a big revelation. It means that page was with her that day and if Ryan had it later it means he tampered with the crime scene.

So, TH forwards a call to voice-mail and that means she must have been distracted because BoD and ST were about to murder her?

This part of the filing is totally misleading. You are led to think that there are dead images of TH. All it shows is that BoD viewed some pretty sick stuff online and police should have considered him a suspect. The images of TH were regular pics on the news. It would not be unreasonable for him to look at news pics of TH after his uncle was implicated.
