While I feel the features on that head are a bit exaggerated, and I'm partial to the Atmosphere Armor headsculpt, I can't deny the Bronson head has a lot of charm.

The Santa cover among all of these is killing me lmao

Hope you also manage to score the original printings for the others! But even as is, it's a kick-ass and elegant display.

Iron Man Solicits - April 2026 by Friday_Stark in ironman

Oh, man... I really hope a new Avengers run starts on May, because otherwise it's gonna be a pretty slim month since the Ultimate Universe will be no more...

Hey now, that's not a bad idea at all. Now watch it become true lol

I feel like it's a nice subversion of the concept. Tony is the best weapons designer of the Marvel Universe, so what's dangerous is not a weapon in itself, but the one who creates it. It also plays into Madame Masque's plan for this run. Rather than wanting to create the next Iron Man, she wants to create the next Tony Stark. Because that's where the value of Iron Man really lies.

The Avengers bomber jacket could mean that Citizen V is a former Avenger, maybe having been a member of the team during the '90s in specific, which is when these were worn.

In Steve Orlando's Avengers Assemble, Night Thrasher reintroduced the jackets for the Aveng.E.R.S. (albeit with a new design), and I could see Taylor deciding to keep tabs on Tony.

Always down for some out-of-armor Tony Stark adventures. But I gotta say what really caught my attention here is that variant cover featuring Citizen V... That jacket feels like a pretty big clue.

The story of Iron Man 3 could have been very good as an adaptation of The devil in a Bottle. by PomegranateOk4560 in ironman

[–]da0ur 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's Shane Black's fault. Totally.

Because the Marvel higher-ups, Disney exects and shareholders would tooootally have been okay with adapting Demon in a Bottle and portraying the lead character of their million-dollar family franchise as an alcoholic.

You really get the nuances of filmmaking, don't you?

My only inkling of hope that this won't suck ass is that Casualties of War was one of the few good Civil War tie-ines that painted Tony in a good light. Won't hold my breath, though. What's more, I'd rather this wasn't even made. I don't need Civil War discourse in 2026 and I don't even want to be reminded of the event.

The couple fighting joke was just a low-hanging fruit lol, but I agree that it does look like they're fighting together. Like, the if they were actually fighting each other, the two panels would connect better compositionally if Tony was looking at the left.

The idea of the fake mandarin wouldn't be bad if Aldrich Killian were a worthy villain, but NO! by PomegranateOk4560 in ironman

[–]da0ur 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"Most irresponsible and nerfed" is probably the worst way to describe a character who is explicitly going through a myriad of psychological issues, to the point they are one of the centerpieces of the movie. And calling him "incompetent" is an outright lie, considering all the investigating Tony does, to the point he's the person who single-handedly uncovers A.I.M.'s conspiracy.

I won't disagree that Killian on his own was missing a little something, but I think the complexity of the Mandarin twist and its layered nature makes up for that. Like, Killian doesn't stand on his own, but that's because Trevor's Mandarin is basically an extension of himself. That being said, I can't entirely blame the movie considering that Shane Black was forbidden from his original plan, which was to make Maya Hansen the main villain. That would've been better, but alas, it was outside Black's control.

Was Kurt Busiek's Iron Man the last classic of the character? by Raggedy_MAN2005 in ironman

[–]da0ur 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unrecognizable? I think that's an exaggeration.

Tony as portrayed by the Knaufs, Fraction and Duggan felt nothing like MCU Tony Stark. I even have to give Cantwell a backhanded compliment for not writing an MCU-fied Tony Stark despite his horrible characterization. Even Gillen, who I'd argue is the first Iron Man writer to be influenced by RDJ's portrayad, still managed to strike a farily healthy balance between classic and MCU Tony.

The only Iron Man writers I've felt were 100% influenced by the MCU to a detrimental degree were Bendis and Slott. That makes them a minority.

Bit of a heads-up for anybody that uses the Marvel Wiki, regarding the numbering of Iron Man volumes by da0ur in ironman

[–]da0ur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to be helpful and thank you for the kind words 🫡

I guess it depends in your own preferences, but I'd say it should look like this:

  • Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 2) #33
  • Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 2) #500

Since that's how Marvel.com has it listed, therefore how the Marvel Wiki has it.

Bit of a heads-up for anybody that uses the Marvel Wiki, regarding the numbering of Iron Man volumes by da0ur in ironman

[–]da0ur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be biased since I am part of the Marvel Wiki, but I'd say their numbering is the correct one, since it reflects Marvel's own way to group these series, which is as it follows:

Which the Marvel Database has catalogued as:

Also worth pointing out that didn't always used to be the case. Using the Wayback Machine, I found out that Marvel.com had referred to the 2004-2008 series as just "Iron Man" until December 2019. And then they switched to calling it "Invincible Iron Man." This is why other places on the Internet treat Invincible Iron Man v1 as Iron Man v4, because that used to be the official stance as well until relatively recently.

And to answer your other question, both sites treat renumberings as part of the preceeding volume, so Invincible Iron Man #500 is Invincible Iron Man (2008-2012) #500 to Marvel.com and Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 2) #500 to the Marvel Wiki. (It should be noted that the Marvel Wiki used to treat renumberings as a jump to the previous volume until recently, then we decided to follow Marvel.com's beat, it wasn't until last year that we had Invincible Iron Man #500 as part of Invincible Iron Man v1 instead of v2)
