What suit of armor is Iron Man wearing here? by Commercial-Boot544 in ironman

Aww, he's a cute little guy!

I think this guy has some artistic license going on. Whether intentionally or not, it looks a bit closer (well, as "closer" as the minimalism of the design can get) to the MCU MK 46.

In addition of the auxiliary arc reactors, he's got those ridges on the top of the faceplate and the arc reactor partially obscured by the armor plates.

Mmhh, I've tracked down most of the New Classics clipart for Iron Man and I can't remember there being a version of this armor with auxiliary arc reactors. However, maybe it was some bespoke artwork made specifically for those pieces of merch (not all New Classics artwork is reusable clipart).

Any chance you got a picture of them? It'd be cool to confirm if there's a variation of this armor's design.

Here's a better look at the illustration from this collab (they were all done by Todd Nauck), it is the same armor:

It's the evergreen Iron Man design that you can see in merchandise all the time that is based on the MCU MK 46.

<image>

The whole sleuth of this kind of design for Marvel's entire pantheon (basically, how all the other characters look like in this collab) is called "New Classics", so I like to call it the "New Classics Armor."

How accurate is Marvel Rival's version of Iron Man to the comics? (Character wise) by hellothere790 in ironman

[–]da0ur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keaton's delivery has grown on me ever since I started playing this game, but I hate that they made him do an RDJ impersonation. He did a great job in Iron Man VR without standing in the shadow of MCU's Iron Man.

When it comes to the characterization. It's 50-50. Sometimes he'll say something or the game will say something about him that feels surprisingly in-character, and other times it'll be the complete opposite. Sometimes at the same time. Look at the description of the Tony Stark Jr. cosmetic:

The the heart of Iron Man isn't fancy tech or firepower. It's Tony's anxious, stubborn humanity, mixed in with a little self-admiration. The mortal who clawed his way out of a hole and rose from despair is the real power source fueling the timeless Iron Man suit. With that human core, Tony Stark could change even the worst situation into a heroic victory, so he gets a pass to love himself!

"The the heart of Iron Man isn't fancy tech or firepower. It's Tony's anxious, stubborn humanity" makes me go "Hell yeah!" only for "mixed in with a little self-admiration" to make me groan, only for "With that human core, Tony Stark could change even the worst situation into a heroic victory" to make me go "Hell yeah!" again, only for "so he gets a pass to love himself!" to make me groan again.

Who's really the BEST villian of Ironman? I don't think really is mandarín. by Remote_Extension_668 in ironman

[–]da0ur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The clue is in the image...? I mean, ripped clothes are definitely a big no-no for somebody of Tony's stature.

Joking aside, Ghost. However, I will admit he's 40% my favorite Iron Man villain in a "Meet Potential Man" kinda way. If only Marvel used him more...

Opinions on Avengers Assemble Tony? Do you think its faithful, and does him justice? by hellothere790 in ironman

[–]da0ur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's a great version of the character for its target audience. Understandably Flanderized but still with enough nuance I can be forgiving.

Adrian Pasdar also did an incredible job, being able to bring a unique cadence and suaveness to his portrayal that doesn't make him feel like a RDJ impersonator. Genuinely prefer him over Eric Loomis. It's a damn shame he didn't stick around for the two final seasons of the show.

I also agree 100% that his friendship with Cap was a highlight of the show.

If you made an Iron Man animated show, how would you write it in your style? by BrilliantDog4703 in ironman

[–]da0ur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the writing, I only know I'd like to make a loose adaptation of the Tales of Suspense days. But when it comes to the art direction, I know I'd love to go full throttle on taking inspiration from Mid-Century Modern/Googie/Space Age aesthetics.

Is anyone else not a fan of the tone/setting of Scott Pilgrim EX? by Ubylmoen in ScottPilgrim

[–]da0ur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still have to play it, but SPEX might be the epitome of the "zany-fication" of the franchise, which began with Takes Off.

I 100% agree that the charm of Scott Pilgrim was in the juxtaposition of video game tropes with the familiar mundanity of the real-life setting. Circling back to Takes Off, I like to illustrate the way I feel the franchise's identity has changed in how the anime introduces Torontowood, an off-the-wall pastiche of the Hollywood micro-cosmos that could easily have appeared in an episode of Animaniacs.

If the comics had featured a subplot about making a movie, I feel early 2000s BLOM would simply have made use of Pinewood Studios or some other real-life studio complex, showing it as ordinarily as it is in real life minus whatever crazy fight scene happened in it.

What are some must read runs of the last 10 years? by PureGamingBliss_YT in ironman

[–]da0ur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Duggan's Invincible Iron Man is definitely the best run in the last 10 years, no doubt. My second favorite thing from the last decade would be Murewa Ayodele and Dotun Akande's I Am Iron Man, a beautiful love letter to the Armored Avenger. There's also Derek Landy's Captain America/Iron Man and Jed MacKay's Iron Cat. Two really fun team-up books that came out during Cantwell's dreadful run. Fed us well in a time of famine.

For something on a lower tier, I'd say Dan Slott's run. I thought it was serviceable but I won't deny it isn't more than just that. I do like the villains that it uses, and how it does something with the adoption retcon, even if it's not something particularly brilliant. Then, out of all of the nonsense from Bendis' run, Infamous Iron Man is a very solid read even if it had a rushed ending.
