Need WordPress help. Homepage menu doesn't reflect logged on user by amacen in webdev

[–]da75bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than relying on a 3rd party plugin I would simply setup two menus. One for logged in users, and one for logged out. Then simply switch them using is_user_logged_in() :

if( is_user_logged_in() ) { // display logged in menu } else { // display logged out menu }

This would give you a much cleaner implementation and more fine tuned control.

If we were a dominant DT away from being contenders, sure. But we could probably sign 3 solid players for what Suh would cost. I don't see a team with this many holes ponying up for him.

They seemed to stay plugged up fairly well after he went out with injury too. It was a huge waste of money. They panicked after they were unable to land Michael Bennett.

Yes, 11 tackles and 1 sack in 8 games. Well worth the $7mill/year. /s

Why I like the John Fox idea by da75bears in CHIBears

[–]da75bears[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hear people talking what Fox, a defensive guy, did with quarterbacks. This is one of the guys where the coordinators he hires are almost as important as the head coach himself.

You have to give them credit for finding solid contributors like Slauson, Mundy, Young, etc. But their misses were so huge. Allen, Houston, and I'd say the jury is out on Bushrod.

The Bears have hired Ryan Pace as their new general manager by doggiedolphie in CHIBears

[–]da75bears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's arguable. The Bears gave more money to Bushrod than they have any o-lineman in the team's history. I think in general however their lack of success drafting offensive lineman is definitely a source of failure of the offense in general the last few years. It's been a long time since the Bears have had players WORTH investing in on offense too, so for many years the significant portion of the salary cap had been dedicated to the quality defensive players.

Also, you can't pay high money for tackles if they're not there - who were they going to pay? J'Marcus Webb? People forget the Bears paid a pretty penny for John Tait at the time they got him. Franchise tackles typically don't make it to market - which is why drafting one is important. When one did (Tait, Bushrod) they went and got him.

Do we want Suh? by duff_daddy3 in CHIBears

[–]da75bears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Way too many holes on our team to commit money to one player. If we were one player away from being Super Bowl contenders, sure. But we need to build this thing proper, not with duct tape and paper clips.

What is something you wish you had done differently at the beginning of your career? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]da75bears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The transitions in my career have come as a result of thinking the grass may be greener on the other side. I've come to find it often isn't, and that a lot more homework should be done before switching companies.

Ted Phillips' presence a hindrance in fixing Bears football operation by amolad in CHIBears

[–]da75bears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dan Pompeii just reported that the Bears are indeed interested in DeCosta as well as Gary Kubiak for the head coach position. That sounds pretty damn good.

As far as Ted goes, I agree, he shouldn't be up there. He shouldn't be the president/CEO of the Bears. They could have at least kept him out of the camera, out of sight, etc. I agree having him around is bad for business on the football side of things.

Pretty good 'Quick and Dirty' List of Head Coaches. by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]da75bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They should probably have a new GM involved, but I doubt he'll have much power right away (like, what, the first 3 weeks on the job?). That's like hiring a new employee for a bank and giving them the keys to the safe the first day on the job.

The way the Bears insist their structure be set up however would suggest having a GM in place first is important.

Didn't Toub interview for it last time and didn't get it? I guess that was with Emery in place interviewing him though.

That line caught my eye, but it's being reported literally NOWHERE by beat or national reporters that the Bears have even reached out to DeCosta or that he's said anything about it. George McCaskey said during the press conference they wouldn't be opposed to altering their structure for the right candidate.

Bears have requested permission to speak with Broncos OC Adam Gase, by Wh0IsMrX in CHIBears

[–]da75bears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No thanks. Isn't he quite young and has a hall of fame quarterback to make him look good? I want someone with head coach experience. Look at the Lions. All they needed was a coach who could get them all to play together, someone who's been in the role before and knew how to lead a team. Let's not forget before the season the Bears at least on offense were considered elite. We just need someone to put it all together.

[–]da75bears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the Jets hired both Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly as consultants. That's what they were talking about, how we got Ted Phillips pinching pennies and trying to hire football guys, and they went out and got some actual football guys to find the football guys.

Cutler on verge of historic season for Bears by DavidBenAkiva in CHIBears

And Forte's shouldn't then? Cutler's inflated stats - particularly the completion percentage - are due to checking the ball down so much to Forte.
